... if I would ride a tour boat for another JPY1,000, but I didn't feel like trying it on the day. While mam was waiting for me in a cafe, I explored the coast and enjoy good views. (Although the views were good, I still think you can skip the park, if you have a tight schedule. Some visitors say it is better to take a tour boat, if you ask for better sceneries.) ... possible to pull up a daikon from the vegetable plot, just by reaching out of the train window. A lot of the plants and trees I don't recognize, but along rice, apples, onions, daikons, cabbage and tomatoes seem to be very popular in this area and why not, when the soil is rich and the imported fruit and vegetables are very expensive.

I’d love to say it was all in the planning, but it was actually pure coincidence that we arrived in the west coast city of Niigata at the start of one of the largest festivals of the year - the Matsuri.
