... and nabe one evening, a hot pot dish with vegetables, tofu, seafood and meats - all very good. We also went out to an Izakaya one evening, which serves pub-like finger food. We had our own separate room and left the ordering to Masa and Lily. I think I can safely say that everything that we ate was very different from the food we´ve had in Canada, even though in some cases, the dishes were familiar (like tempura). We ...
Niigata, Chubu, Japan kalsi_kaurAfter spending the day in Niigata city I headed to the ferry port to catch the overnight ferry up to Hokaido. The ferry left a 10.30 (or so it said on the ticket) and in the Tokyo office when I booked it they had said the it was 10.30 in the evening. So I got there around 6.30 and thought it was a bit strange that there was no boat or workers / people (the whole place was shut up and deserted). I waited fo an hour and it got dark. A couple of ...
Niigata, Japan lotster... red. I purchased a few bottles to bring home, but now I can't fit everything in my main bag. After the festival I went with some other foreigners that I was introduced to and we had dinner at a Chinese place. The food was really good, and we ate quite a lot. We went back to drinking at an Irish pub next. It went long into the night, again I got back to the hotel at 2am.
Niigata, Japan glen_rs... driftwood and rocks. He uses a lot of algae eating animals, each tank had many little shrimp and usually a siamese flying fox or two. I'll put some photos up, but my ****** photography doesn't do the tanks justice. When I got back I went out to a bar that was recommended by the hotel receptionist. It turned out that they were having a private party, but the owner pointed me down the road to another foreigner bar. It was called Northern ...
Niigata, Japan glen_rs... The sun had started to shine, the snow had been patted down into a firm** lay**. People had started heading home so the slopes w**e quiet** and my turning had improved dramatically. I managed to complete unaided turns on the toe and heelside, and linked slide turns on the main slope. It was fantastic. Such an achievement given how far I'd traveled on my back side down the slopes. Thursday 14th Feb I woke up this morning without even realizing it was Valentines Day. The bar ...
Niigata, Japan ramduxAkemashite omedeto gozaimasu (Happy New Year!) The year begins with an entry about the last sporting event I attended in 2007, the second annual (but from the same year) bj-league All-Star Game. Basketball at Toki Messe in Niigata was the busy event of the day on Saturday, just 11 months and a day after Ginowan, Okinawa was treated ...
Niigata, Japan odevened... pants and day pass. Now it was the end of the season but I have to say the conditions where pretty good and the scenery was spectacular.... Unfortunately there are no real snowboarding stories like the last two locations, just had a nice day crusing the slopes..... Headed out for more Japanese pizza that night...... salmon roe (eggs) and cream cheese..... pretty good.
Hakuba, Japan dam... They orchestra never ceases to amazing me... truly some of the most talented people I have ever been around. And because the hall is in the round, we had much more freedom delivering our songs. It was so much fun just turning around mid-song, and making sure everyone was involved in what we were doing. The whole show felt really fresh and fun! We are only here in Niigata for a day, which is a shame, because it looks like it has a lot to ...
Niigata, Japan nyguy79... read but I got by ok. After returning to Tokyo around 17:30 I spent several hours in the musical instrument area of Tokyo around Akihabara. Shop after shop after shop after shop of everything musical. I was like a kid in a lolly shop and bought a couple of good things. I have only one more day before I fly out so I had better get some souveniers for delivery to Aus.
