... that alcohol and drugs are not allowed, that foreigners must respect Hindu practices while walking through the town, so we had to take our shoes off in certain places, including in the temple. But Richard was offered opium by a man who came up to him in the street, so the good intentions are clearly over-taken at times by commercial need. Our guide said that one can get ‘anything here’.

2-6 Feb Everyone wants to get their cut of the tourist dollars. Especially the rickshaw men. At Ajmer train station I was hassled by many who wanted to give me a ride to Pushkar (the next town.) I kept repeating that I wanted to catch the bus. So they kept offering to drive me to the bus station..... I asked one person how far it was to the station - turns out the bus station was just across the footbridge! I made my way there, carefully stepping over the sleeping bodies of the homeless ...
