After getting his phD in Chemistry, the father of this household, who wishes to remain unnamed, opened his house to children from disadvantage homes to come study at his house free of charge. Most of them were still attending elementary school. As we were there on the students' summer vacation, our purpose was to lead an English teaching summer camp.

    ... certainly be in the top 3 of our list of the worst hotels.
    We decided to walk around town and tasted some nice tea together with excellent information about Taiwanese tea. We got a view of the less than spectacular sunset but a nice show of clouds rolling in at the base of the mountain.

    We took the fast train from Tainan to Chiayi, it took 40 min. The regular train would be 65 min and the high speed rail, 18 min. When we got there, some woman was offering a mini van ride to the B&B for NT$ 250 each. A bus ticket would be $170 and we would have to wait for another 4 hours. Luckily, we took the offer and the driver actually called the B&B to meet us ...

    ... s market sort of place where Lucy and I each got some preserved turnips which smelt good. The town (or big village) we went to was called PuLi. We toured a liquor factory and later a paper making factory (which had some DIY activity Lucy was interested but it took too long so we did not do it). We had lunch at a nice family operated restaurant in PuLi. It was a vegetarian restaurant, with Italian style food, with some Indian flavor. Quite good. The place was nice and clean so lunch ...
