Iron Gut to the Test

I've always been proud of how infrequently I get sick and how resilient I am to food from other cultures. Traveled China and Ethiopia with little or no difficulty. But something is in my gut now and it's not happy! Moving hurts, and anything that I attempt to put inside is rejected immediately!

For 3 days now we've been laid up in this lovely hotel, where we've been stuffed full of tea until it leaks out our ears, trying to recover. The first ...

Which Way to Turn?

... not!
People are certainly kind enough through. Shop owners repeatedly showed me the same bad mps over and over again touting it’s desirability. At one gas station I found a faded tourist map in the window, and when I asked where I could get one, the man shook his head, but went to his car and brought out an extra map he had floating around. The woman at the car rental place did the same pulling ...

And still no sleep (part 2 of the palarver)

Evening.

So, we left off earlier with us getting to the stadium just in time for the National Anthems, here's what we've been doing since.

We worked out, whilst watching the first half of the game, that we had been traveling for 20 hours from leaving home to actually getting to the game - did anyone actually know that Turkey was so far away? We certainly didn't!
Let's be honest about the match. It wasn't the greatest game in the world. It felt flat, and the girls didn't ...

ANZAC DAY GALLÝPOLÝ

... fitting.Ýt was well worth the wait and i think waiting overnight really added to the experience. After the dawn service all 8,000 people began the 3km walk up what was the front line to Lone Pýne. Ýt was then that we realised this truely is a pýlgrýmage - with more aussie flags than you can imagine and just overhearing all the aussie accents was quiet entertaining for ryan and i after 4 months away from home ! The Lone Pine ...

... choices for the meal. I discover what roasted chickpeas are supposed to taste like - my attempts to make them at home had left a lot to be desired. The white Urfer cheese is very salty. There are slices of meat that are rather fatty. Even after I take off as much fat as possible the meat still has a greasy feel in my mouth. I'm not able to decide if the meat is cooked or raw. The bread display includes a freshly baked loaf of phylo with a cheese filling ...

... and travel to the site of the ancient city of Troy as described by Homer. Here we see the ruins of nine cities on the same site from 4000BC to 300AD. Sited on a prominent hill guarding the entrance on the Asian side of the Dardanelles. Site partly excavated to various levels. Also nearby was a large wooden replica of the Trojan horse. We then go south along the Aegean Sea to Pergamum. Perched on the hilltop the great acropolis of Pergamum also with the ...

... go. He still refused to let me go!! He eventually agreed to let me go only after I left him my email address - so that we could keep in touch over MSN. Ok.. whatever.. I didn't want the rest of the group to leave me alone in Ephesus!! The guide was pretty good though - he actually came looking for me BUT only after the guy at the shop finally decided to let me go. Too late!! After a picture with the shop guy taken with his mobile, I was on my way to explore the ancient city ...

... had been recommended "them" but never experienced "them". Today all that was going to change. As one of the locals leads us to one of the local baths in the main street. Mari is ushered off to her own separate "woman's" area whilst Mike and I are greeted by our 'organiser' - an Andre Aggassi look-alike. Both of us trying to be cool and give that "oh this, we have done this about hmmm must be a million times before.." look we are lead into a room to strip down and ...
