Drop Off At Malpensa and Then A Day in Milan

A travel blog entry by alanjgreenhalgh

We dropped Linda and Bruce at the airport at Malpensa, dropped off the car at the airport, took the train back into town, and spent a very lovely day. We stayed at the Hotel Star, after the Hotel Griti closed, my favorite place in Milan near pedestrian friendly via Dante. After lunch at a street side cafe, and a stroll to the Piazza del Duomo, …

Romantic weekend in Milan

A travel blog entry by alienbuddy

I went to Milan with my girlfriend for a romantic weekend. We stayed at Hotel Star because the location was perfect for my sweet plan. It was just 5 minutes walk from Piazza Duomo were we sip a drink with view over the square and it was amazing! I organized also a special evening: we go to La Scala Theatre and see an Opera. My girlfriend was …

Once again, I lead you through a mostly travel day. Muah ha ha. FYI, this is why blog posting is behind – because Steve has to write and post the longer entries ;)

Anyways, we took the train out of Venice to Milan. Once in Milan, we walked to our hotel from the metro stop (not as close as we were told…again, but this time not …

Aaaand we're down to this. One final day in Milan, then just travel back to Rome for our flight home. I hate to say it, but we’re actually very excited to come home to our friends and family, our own bed, and, most importantly, our cat Sable. She’s going to be getting lots of treats and wet food in the next week or so! But first, much …

Landing in Milan

A travel blog entry by stumblebum

We landed at Milan Bergamo, having been treated to spectacular aerial views of some of the Italian Lakes. We caught the airport shuttle coach into town and walked the mile or so into the town centre. We stayed at the Hotel Star, which was very pleasant and efficient, although the decor was a little tired. We promptly went out to see the Duomo ( …

Perfect location for me and my girlfriend! Just 5 minutes walk from Piazza Duomo and La Scala Theater. Cozy room and excellent breakfast. I would definitely return.

Friendly, comfortable and very good value

    from f2010

I spent one night in this comfortable hotel, which was also the cheapest centrally located one I could find. It was 5 minutes walk from La Scala and very close to other attractions. The staff went out of their way to be helpful, including spending time helping me use their wireless internet. The single room was very comfortable.

    Good hotel!

    from blauner

Nice room. Huge, modern bathroom with jacuzzi style bathtub and shower. Convenient location to Duomo and Galleria shopping. Good breakfast. We had a very quiet room in the back. The staff was very helpful during a taxi strike. AC was quite strong. Decent breakfast included in price of room.

    Would stay here again

    from Constanze

The other reviews of this hotel were very helpful and accurate. The location cannot be beat..the area seemed safe and it was a short walk to all the major attractions in Milan. The staff is extremely helpful-I needed a wake up call at 4:50 AM and a taxi to Linate at 5:30 AM and they made all the arrangements. My husband needed to leave before the breakfast but the staff prepared a cup of coffee for him. Our room was very clean and the bathroom was small but brightly lit with amenities offered by more expensive hotels. In addition, our bathroom was updated with bright white fixtures and marble walls. The room itself is simply furnished but comfortable and spotless. We were quite pleased and would book here again. We didn't have the experience of staff coming into our room and rearranging anything which some other reviewers mentioned. Finally, this is a very moderately priced hotel considering all of its pluses.

    Great location,

    from Billybase

We just spent two nights here. The room was very clean and the staff extremely helpful. They recommended wonderful restaurants and helped us with directions and taxis. It was close to the Malpensa Express train to the airport. And it was close to everything. Just a great location. Also I felt like we had a private maid. She was constantly straightening up after us. I know others found this annoying, but we thought it was great. This small hotel was more than we expected.

    Different from what I expected

    from nunununu

It is in a really convenient location to Duomo, Szfora Castle, and La Scala.

The front desk staff is helpful and friendly.

The rooms need updating, badly. There is plastic patio furniture. I felt like I was staying in some old lady's house who came from the old country.

It is strange that every time I went out, when I came back, my room was rearranged. My nightgown was placed on the bed for me in a decorative manner - as if I were staying at Grandma's house. It made me a little uncomfortable, but it is not as if I brought any top secret things, just clothes and books. Anything that was valuable was in the safe.

The breakfast was decent. There were hot eggs and bacon as well as other meats, yoghurt, etc. My room was not too sunny as the street is rather narrow.

The bathroom is lovely, though, although I never could figure out compleltely how to use the sauna shower.

All this being said, I think I would find another hotel in Milan.

Comfortable, excellently managed, well appointed central hotel

    from anonymous

This was a discreet, peaceful hotel, with very attentive staff who were able to accommodate all of my requests. The room was comfortable (I generally have an afternoon nap. I was surpised to find my bed re-done when I returned late in the evening, which is something that I find only in far more expensive establishments), everything in the bathroom worked. Breakfast was rather cheerful and varied. Finally, its very central location cannot be overemphasized; it is only steps away from most places of interest in Milan - I say this because central Milan is surrounded by a swath of daunting residential areas, useful, no doubt, to residents, but uninteresting to visitors. I think I shall be returning to the Star. Some people are surprised at finding so many "foreigners" when they travel overseas, many, not surprisingly, with a limited knowledge of languages; I am, on the other hand, fascinated by "otherness".

    Loved the Star

    from anonymous

My daughter and I stayed at the Star in Milan for three nights in October. We were extremely pleased and would not hesitate to recommend it, with the caveat that it is not a big American hotel. It is a small Italian hotel with clean, comfortable rooms and a friendly, solicitous, English-speaking staff. Breakfast is a buffet and excellent. It was remarkably quiet considering its location, a block and a half from La Scala and two blocks from the Galleria and the Duomo. The cost is moderate and the location is superb.

    A Favorite for Twenty Years!

    from anonymous

Hotel Star has been my favorite hotel in Milan for over twenty years. I chose it originally for its convenient location, between the Brera and La Scala. I have continued to return because the staff is so helpful and accomodating. No matter how unusual the request, they have been able to make it possible. The rooms are quiet, comfortable, and immaculately clean, with air conditioning and perhaps the best bathrooms in Italy. The breakfast has a wide range of choices and is efficient. My favorite snack is the "toast," a lovely grilled ham and cheese sandwich. I look forward to returning and seeing my favorite people again.

    Great hotel, great location

    from anonymous

Spent one night 24 Nov 05.

This hotel is right across the "park" from the Malpensa Airport bus stop. Check in and check out were a piece of cake, with extremely courteous staff. A room was ready for us right away although it wasn't officially check-in time yet.

The room was nice although the spiffy bathroom was a little narrow so we kept bruising our shins on the bidet and the toilet. One of the wall switches kept throwing the breaker but it didn't take any time at all getting the maintenance person up there. He couldn't figure it out either but at least he did show up and we found out where the breaker box was to keep the rest of the lights on.

The double - double paned windows did indeed keep all the traffic and people noise out. We were across from the elevator but couldn't hear it. This place has exceptional sound proofing.

There was a hot water pot so we could enjoy tea in the room - always nice in Italy in the winter where they charge out the wazzoo for being seated in a cafe/bar.

The hotel restaurant was also very good. We had a tasty dinner and a fresh breakfast. (The breakfast here was better than the breakfast in the Bologna Starhotel.)

We would definitely stay here again and will be looking into other Starhotel location in Italy for the next trip.

    Fina another hotel in Milan

    from anonymous

I would think twice about booking hotel reservations with Hotel Star.

My boyfriend and I just spend two incredible weeks in Italy, ending our trip in Milan. The location was convenient, the reception area pleasant and the bathroom very modern however, the bedroom was something out of a 1970's show - depressing dark colors, yellowing wallpaper & old furniture (the chairs were plastic patio furniture) - we couldn't wait to leave the room. It got worse - every time we left our room to go out, the house keeping staff would come into our room, rearrange our bags, clothes, items on the desk and bathroom counters, remove any items from the bed - it was more than strange to say the least. This happened four times - it almost felt like we were being spied on. When I called the front desk to explain that we did not need house keeping to "tidy-up" our room while we were out, the man at the desk claimed he did not speak English and could not help me. Funny, because the next evening when we spoke with him to arrange for a taxi, he spoke fluent English, but he was very cold to us. We have never had an experience like this. This is not the way we wanted to end our trip and I highly recommend considering another hotel if you plan to travel to Milan.
