The hutong near the Lama Temple is gorgeous and does not feel as crowded as Hou Hai. There is a nice path way outside the hutong with benches. Plenty of cafes inside the hutong.
Plus, the Lama Temple is closed by and it very stunning place to visit. If you visit the Lama Temple, make sure to have your student ID on you to get the discount.

On the way to the Cable Car we drove down Lombard Street, the twistiest road in the World! We went down to Ghiradelli Square and hopped on a cable car. It was freezing! We caught the cable car at the Hyde terminus after we watched the men turn it round on the turntable. They push it round without any mechanical help. The cable car goes up some very steep hills.
