San Francisco

After a final goodbye (and shower) at Charles and Ruth's, we set off to San Francisco. We decided to take the Pacific Coast highway as Charles and Ruth had recommended this. It takes a little bit longer but is very pretty. Well... it took a lot longer but only because we were stopping every 15 minutes to look at the views. We had a local guide, Carol who showed us around on a 'taste testing’ tour – they should have warned us not to have breakfast: a fruit Danish, chilli beef, vegetarian spring roll, gluten free curry puff, a chocolate, cheese and bread and a raspberry butter cream macaroon – you can see why we didn’t need lunch today.

These houses are quaint, with detailing on the windows, doors and roofs; often with stained glass over the doorways, fretwork and decorated overhangs... all in all they are gorgeous as they cling to the side of the steep streets.
