... walked along the piers, grabbed sourdough bread bowls filled with lobster bisque, and enjoyed the SF sunshine. We also explored a little museum of antique carnival games, which was interesting, and hit up Ghirardelli for a sundae. We then left and drove back to Palo Alto so that the Tilleys could spend some time with Jonathan's grandfather and I could get some work done.

What an awesome weekend. This is exactly what the summer is for. ...

After a relaxed morning and late check out we drove into the centre of San Francisco and checked into a different hotel for a further night before beginning our Green Tortoise adventure tomorrow. ... We took the Tahoe down but it was easy to sympathise with the residents of this up-market street. People are queue to walk up, drive down and photograph it. All the cars drift down with much whooping and waving going on. There’s lots of stop-starting as people need to get in and out of the cars.

... car rental drop off place was a nightmare. At one point jon was in a cable car lane! Was a bit early for check in so we dumped our considerable number of bags on the hotel porter (who seemed well chuffed!) then headed on out.
