However the day started overcast and we left Penzance at about 9.30am and wended our way through narrow country lanes on the way to St Ives looking for the Chysauster Ancient Village. Found the car park and then started the quite long walk along an access footpath which included and couple of sets of steps, all very much up hill.

The intention was to catch the Appledore ferry across to Instow, but I met Giuliana at the Car park in Appledore and cadged a lift around the Torridge. Then I spied the Tarmac path below the Torridge Bridge and my heart sank. I made a decision to miss out much of this; I didn't really want to be walking all day, and definitely not on that! So ...
