    ... a taxi. The ride only took about half an hour to reach the hotel - much less traffic than I remember from the last time I was here. So I arrived about 2.30pm. It's Holy Week (ie the week before Easter). Filipinos take this all very seriously and everyone is gearing up for the holiday weekend. As a result, all the little shops and restaurants are closed!     ... colonized three times...for 300 years by the Spanish who made them indentured slaves and servants....americans...who really freed them from Spanish rule and set them on a path to sovereignty..,and the Japanese for only about 4 years before the Americans came and liberated them again.....so needless to say Americans are well liked here.
