... Melk Abbey, built between 1702 and 1736. This is an enormous complex. The corridor that goes along the guest wing is over 200m long! The guest wing was used by visiting royalty and their entourages and today is a museum. Had some beautiful treasures from times gone by on display, chalices with gems, old vestments that are still used at Christmas and Easter, a reusable coffin and old texts. ... but it was a nice relaxing trip back.
The bus tour brought us back to the Opern Haus and we spent a quiet evening eating wurst and walking by the Danube canal. We find ourselves so tired at the end of the day that tomorrow we are allowing for a late start hopefully following a restful sleep.

On Monday we said goodbye to Italy and made the scenic drive north though the Alps into Austria. The overcast skies and intermittent rain did not afford the best views of the mountains, but it was a beautiful journey nonetheless. After a couple of short stops for some food and to stretch the legs, we were in Vienna (500 km drive and about 6 hours including stops).
