... we think they were used for grinding grain. A few of them are of the more modern Dutch type where the sails are attached to a cap that rotates into the wind. (We have also seen lots of modern electricity-producing windmills in Sweden, both in the ocean and on land.)
We drove back over the bridge and started the return to Malmo. We drove along the coast and through farm lands. A ...
Dagens drink: Sherry
Brantevik, Sweden mattiaslindfors... empty building and warehouse taking measurements and making notes. I had the camera with me to take pictures of the machines for visual recall later and help Staffan measuring around the machines. It was really interesting to see how beds were made and how it goes from little wires to springs, into full fledged mattresses. It was eery walking around when you knew it must be a madhouse when all the machines are chugging along and it is filled with life.
Sösdala, Skåne, Sweden vcruzOur last day in Sweden we packed our stuff, and drove with Inka towards Karslkrona, where the ferry was going to take us to the Polish port town of Gdynia. On the way to Karlskrona we stopped of at another couple of historical towns, and also on a strawberry field to enjoy the freshest strawberries possible.
Kristianstad, Sweden mrewkowski... Inka. The following day, the rain stopped for a bit, but it was still overcast. We were determined to get out of the house and went to Ahus to the beach. The temperature was around 20 degrees, so we did not dare enter the water or don our bathing suits. Rather we walked up and down the beach of the Baltic Sea, in long pants and jackets, and enjoyed the wonderful sea air.
Kristianstad, Sweden mrewkowski... Tivoli Gardens here are quite pleasant, though with some snow (woo hoo!) on the ground they weren't a place to linger today. Last day here today: tomorrow I leave first thing for Copenhagen, where I have about 24 hours to explore before flying home. Lovely to see Sarah but I don't wish I was staying in Kristianstad any longer!
Kristianstad, Skåne, Sweden emconnolly2000... cloudy and rainy those first few days so I couldn't even tell which way was North. I've been relying on the help of my corridor mates (who are pretty awesome). Some of which have already been here for a semester. I really like the feel of Lund. It's like a small European town with ...
Lund, Sweden bpburns64... and Jill went shopping. We eventually got to see a small castle (which really couldn't be called a castle), the twisting tower, and the Sweedish side of the Batlic Sea. Two of the splintered groups got back together to go home, while Antonio and Carla stayed to move onto Lund the next day. (Carla and Antonio spent the night with a very nice Communist lady and went to one of their meetings.)
Malmo, Sweden spitfyreHey! Vores eneste aften i ...
Copenhagen, Denmark nuddelexp... exhibition in the arena where the other bracket is playing in Halmstad, about an hour north of here. The arena is much nicer than the one we are in, but apparently it is not a hockey town so it will be tough to draw fans. We beat Finland there, 8-4. Monday was the best day of the trip so far. We had the day off and we went to Copenhagen. We drove the bus to Helsinborg, which is the largest city in the area. From there, we took a 20 minute ferry ...
