Hello, We had a good last day in Tallinn, as it was so cold (-7degrees according to a sign we saw) we spent most of the time moving from one coffee shop to another, playing cards etc when we were there and then seeing some more Old Town. It was all very pretty with allthe old buildings and walls. Although we do keep thinking that -7degrees is positively balmly considering Monglia is having high temperatures of -15 at the moment! Last night we hung around in the restaurant we were eating in an...
St. Petersburg, North-West Russia, Russian Federation emmaandemmaLanding in St Petersburg, I couldn't help but think I was thrown into the middle of an old Bond film. Scanning the runway, we could see the old 'lada' cars all with tinted windows, an overcast sky & construction trucks that I'm sure were once used to transport soldiers/weapons, really all that was missing was the dashing Sean Connery! We figured out the immigration registration process (which is pretty easy) & we were soon on our way. Of course we immediately broke into the budget tra...

... 1000 rubles. I just can't get enough of aubergine; all the grilled vegetables in Russia are divine.
We then finally made it to the river, after a long walk down Nevsky Prospect, and then decided to walk along it to try and find the Vodka Museum. On the way we passed the amazing Cathedral and I desperately wanted to look inside but it was closed. There were lots of random pictures and writings in the Museum, but all the descriptions were in Russian so we had to ...
... are crass - isn't there a dress code for this place? - and others are so, so elegant. One older man arrives with a big box of Veuve Clicquot champagne to accompany his meal (good taste!) and he and his party get down to the serious business of imbibing. For a minute, I want to run over and join them. Never pass up the opportunity for a good Veuve! I listen to the conversation of the two men nearest to me. I think they're businessmen, and I honestly do not ...
Saint-Petersburg, Sankt-Peterburg, Russia gallopmonkey... tourist place. Mostly Russian tourists go there. There are so many palaces surrounding St. Petersburg and Gatchina Palace is probably the least impressive of them. Only about 1/3 of it has been renovated and a larger part of it remains unmaintained and somewhat in ruins from damage done during WWII. What is most appealing to me is that it seems like a real look into a palace, more so than an overly renovated palace. It feels like in a way that you're the first ...
St. Petersburg, Russia kristina.s... and when Mr. Wide dropped his glasses and bent over to pick them up ¡ well let¡¯s just say my view was blocked again (by his ¡°big backside¡±¡ ugh! After the show we returned home for bed. Today we experienced buying an iron in a Russian department store. We tried to fix her iron with melted shirt on it and even though we did a pretty good job (it would work just fine), it still had a few marks on. So, we decided that it was only fair to get her a ...
St. Petersburg, North-West Russia, Russian Federation josh.lambdenMarch 19 I woke up, with Andrea, at 7:13 A.M. In the morning we ate at our favorite breakfast, which was Café 1913. We had delicious hotcakes. They were steaming hot when it came out of the kitchen. They had delicious maple syrup. If didn't know any better I thought it came straight from Canada. After breakfast, we went to Mikhailovsky. Mikhailovsky use to be a castle but was later turned into a museum. This museum is one of the most ...
St. Petersburg, Russia bobrules... lunch - we chose lunch because a museum would not have been the same without your excellent commentary). In an almost comical scene, here was a lady who didn't speak English, giving directions to two guys who didn't speak Russian, but fortunately we had a map, and fortunately I did a creditable enough job pronouncing Karavan that she pointed out our way, though I did have concerns that we'd end up in southern Uzbekistan. After a ten minute walk, we found the restaurant in ...
St. Petersburg, Russia chop49... is out and about, people stay out on the streets until the morning. The White Nights allows them to feel like the night never ends. There are shows on the side walks, we even whitnessed a Fashion Show on one of the main Metro Stations on Nevsky Prospekt. There are many things to do, and the city is just beautiful. The people are sweet and helpful, never have I had any kind of rejection when I have needed help. Anywya, I'm just falling in love with this place.
St. Petersburg, Russia lachilombiana... he didn't trust anyone, most especially his mother (who killed his father and took power). He feared assassination so much, that he built his bedroom with only one entrance, so nobody could get to him - unfortunately when they threw a bomb in his room, he couldn't get out either - oops!! The other great view from here is the church on the spilt blood. This is where the tsar Alexander the first was killed. They threw a bomb in his carriage ...
