A little more than another 5 minutes and we were at the foot of the Spanish Scaffolding (Steps).
The building behind the obelisk was completely covered, but at least the screen over the scaffolding had a picture on it to show what was behind.
At the foot of the steps, the fountain was surrounded by a screen, empty and undergoing renovations.

... to forget eg toothpaste, toenail clippers and condoms! Didn't need any of these! There are coin operated washing machines and dryers which would have been invaluable a few weeks back. There is an outdoor area with lounge chairs, children's play area and games area. Interesting concept.

The propaganda that is the Catholic Church was intense to see, all the people not concerned with each other and so many people selling anything and everything with an image of the pope on it. Lunch in the park was a nice reprieve and after that we did some laundry and ate some food, tomorrow we wake up very early to get moving to Switzerland. ... an absolutely boiling hot day and we had coincided our visit with the annual convention of the European Harley Davidson motorcycle club. This was not a good move. I don't think either of us had ever seen so many bikes in one place; they had literally invaded Rome (and our new campsite).
