The entry for today's blog was written by Bob, but luckily, spell checked by Maryellen. Keyboard acting up, so excuse some issues, please! Today was our scratch day, it was scheduled to rain all day. Anticipating wet weather we ventured out with our umbrellas to several churches. The sun ultimately overcame the clouds and it turn to a great day. ... by this point that we had fit enough into day 1, we truly did make our way back home this time. Back up in the apartment, we read up on some of what we had seen today, and then what we plan to see tomorrow (Colosseum bright and early!). It was a fairly early night (we were all in bed by 9); we're trying to avoid as much jet lag as possible.
All in all, a great first day in Roma, and a great way to kick off our travels in Italia.
... a drink so we could use the toilets but we didn't stick around. We did really well we managed to make it all the way to Bordeaux without getting lost, we had a little difficulty finding how to enter the ring road around the city but we made it and we were even going around it the right way, amazing. We made it to the Mercure Hotel near the Airport and dropped of our bags. Then we went looking for a petrol station, well by this time it's peck hour and it's still ...
... not very populated
Basilica di Santa Andrea Della Valle -- In which we were able to witness the beginning of the 7pm mass
Dinner near the Piazza Navona-- In which we got some insane pizzas
Gelato near the Pantheon -- In which I got hazelnut and praline and decided I liked Salzburg hazelnut ice cream better
And this we did just by walking. I can scarcely believe everything we saw, but it was absolutely fantastic.
... of this Mediterranean peninsula will be sitting down to drink wine, eat bread soaked with olive oil, and down the best coffee on the planet. Parenthetically, one hundred years from now I'm increasingly certain there will not be an Anglican Communion or free standing mainline Protestant denominations as we've known them in our lifetimes, but I trust there will be a Pope in the Vatican.
