Spectacular Malta

... about the knights of Malta. We learned a lot. The knights are of the Order of St. John. They still exist. The Grand Inquisitor lived here. Most buildings here are because of their efforts. This place has been under siege so many times the people are almost apathetic. They are beautiful people, swarthy but refined. They speak Maltese, and Italian, and French and English. A bit of everything. They ...

A flying visit to say a quick goodbye

I've just popped over to Malta for a day & a bit (as you do!) to say a quick hello / goodbye to my parents (and bring them lots of goodies over for the last time in a while).

The weather is a little warmer than the UK, but not as warm as it's going to be in a week's time (ha ha ha).

Anyway, I'll keep this blog short so ciao for now!

The Costa Cruise Experience

... fountains several times over, he ran out of time. Finally located the Avis office at 1.15pm to find it closed. Parked the car outside and thought about throwing the keys through the metal grid in the Avis internal parking area, but envisaged a resourceful person with a bit of wire……. so took them with him instead, and popped them in the post. He then headed off to the train station to catch the train to the ship, but while ...

The Malta "Experience"

... to begin disembarkation. Our tour is almost the last one to be called and we walk out the door to the fourth floor deck, put on the stickers with our bus and tour number, swipe our cruise ID cards and board the bus. From the ship it’s hard to tell how to enter the walled city but once we are sitting inside the bus we can see a ramp that enters the city. A lot of people are walking on the paved sidewalk beside the road and I ...

Street food walk in Malta - and other stories

... garlic or octopus stew and get inundated with endless quantities of hors d’oeuvres on the house for you to guzzle down with glassfuls of Primitivo type wines made by the farmers themselves. A real bargain even price-wise. Travel down for just a few minutes through strawberry fields and vendors along the road, and end up on one of Malta’s most picturesque sandy beaches, guarded by a cliff tower and surrounded by blue ...

Finally one of them apologises to me and tells me that they were deciding who was going to get the bananas!!!! He obviously lost because it was him who disappeared and then reappeared a few minutes later with the goods. It tasted ...

Gozo and Comino

... there were 4 girls: Emily from South Korea, Darima from Russia (she's from the other side of Russia near Japan and she looks Asian), Karolina from Spain, and Lorena from Mexico. I kind of freaked out on Karolina. I started telling her about how I was in love with the Spanish National Football Team and I don't think she was really excited. I was going on and on about all the players but I don't think she was impressed. Oh well I tried. We had lunch with them in Gozo and ...

Paceville, Gozo, finally getting alittle settled

... i ended up buying something i know(dorado royal, and barboni... we sell these for about 25-35$ a fish back home... i got each fish for about 1.20euros, alittle fresher too). Jakeo went all out and bought all the unique shellfish he could find, an eel for a euro, and a full octopus for a euro(he kept asking if i knew how to cook this stuff... i just kept answering yes, ahah). We got home, and i showed the boys how to cook the fish i bought and made a great ...

... be found, usually about 1.5m apart and up to 50cm deep. It is thought these were too big for cart wheels, meaning a sled was probably used. The interesting thing is that these ruts can be seen in other places in Malta, disappearing into the sea on one side of a bay, and then re-emerging on the other, or apparently even disappearing over the edge of cliffs in some locations. The sight I saw was nicknamed 'Clapham Junction' for pretty obvious reasons, given ...

Calypso were going out in the afternoon to a sheltered cove on the southeast corner of the island so I signed up for a single dive. Soon after we zoomed across this tiny, sparsely vegetated island in Calypso's chunky 4WD. Something ...
