      Today we got a late start because we had to drive to our starting point from Omaha in the morning. We said goodbye to family and took off. Today was the first day that we had to take a very windy path to be able to go the direction we wanted to go without getting on the interstate. Everywhere we rode had been flooded a few years ago. You could see water lines about 4 feet up on houses and most of them looked like they had been abandoned. ...

      Had a late lunch at Sweetie Pies in St Louis. Excellent soul food! The fried chicken was amazing - and that's saying something from someone who isn't a big fan of fried chicken.

      ... a complimentary pizza lunch at camp, and then loaded up in the Subaru and headed to Kansas City to shop. Along the way, we stopped at Pumpkins ETC., where the boys charged over, under around and thru the mazes while we shopped for concord grapes, pears, gourds & pumpkins.

      ... gone through at least 4 Springfields on our way), crossed the Illinois River and the Mississippi River, and stopped for lunch in Hannibal, Missouri. Hannibal is the birth place of Mark Twain, so his name is on everything in the area. We rode dead West all day on route 36, but the scenery was a bit better than in Illinois.
