12th Century Airavatesvara Temple in Darasuram

About 5 km out of town, we come to Darasuram where we stopped to take a picture of a lovely old and charmingly neglected Sree Veerapathira Swami Temple blackened with time and greenery taking hold in ...

Epic Temple and Not-so-epic Temple

... going on. This charming story features in many of the statues and paintings in the temple.

Similar to Chidambaram the entrances were huge gopurams covered in detail and colour. On the first one I spotted a statue of a lady giving birth standing up. Pretty graphic. ... from a rooftop viewing area. Not much fun standing barefooted on boiling hot ceramic tiles in the middle of the day, so I cant say I remember much of what I was viewing, just of pouring my drinking water onto the floor so I could stand in one spot for a few seconds….

The phrase "Mad dogs and Englishman" came to mind as I wandered around the quiet streets surrounding the temple, in the scorching hot middle of the day. Many of the ...
