... the south was calmer than the north but have seen no difference at all. The traffic is the same nightmare of noise and confusion. If somehow a partial electrical cataclysm caused the horns and hooters to stop working India would simply stop dead. Or else one billion people would be maimed in traffic collisions.

Tony succumbs to food poisoning and our hotel is infuriatingly inefficient at the most basic room service tasks. A request for some water results ...

... self: maybe I need to rethink joyfully killing mosquitos. Whilst congruent, the food is delicious and the only time I had any trouble, was with a banana - of all things - accepted out of obligation as I don’t really like them. By the third mouthful, my body warned me that any more and I would possibly throw up, so I heeded its warning! A banana. Ridiculous.

By this time of day, it’s getting really warm, in the next hour or so it won’t be too far ...

... was inside another shallower metal cup. This second cup was half filled with coffee as well. We weren't quite sure what do to with it. As I'm writing this with a day later I can tell you that we solved the dual cup mystery. You'll have to read tomorrow's entry though. Sorry.

... lift would only go to six, and we walked up to find the restaurant being renovated, and in a state of some disarray. They told us the restaurant would be open at 7PM, but we would have been dead of starvation by then, so we took some rooftop photos of the temples, and carried on to the next best prospect, on Town Hall Road.

... are behind glass and difficult to photograph. The style of the figures indicates that the current sculptors/ craftsmen are pretty true to tradition, except that earlier male figures had genitalia, whereas later figures are all Disney-modified for general viewing.

There is a good scale model of the Brihadishwara Temple, and the hall itself is highly decorated and brightly coloured. There is a statue of Serfoji II, the enlightened Maratha ...
