... rental companies in coimbatore and found very good reviews about them too. So we decided to email them on the mail id provided in their website and got a response pronto. They were reasonable and sounded very professional so we decided to hire the minivan from them and they suggested that we be put up in the jenny club and do a local sightseeing trip for a day. Jenny club again was such revelation. It is one of the best clubs that i have ...

... aren't really any sidewalks, so you just kinda shuffle through the crowds that walk on the side of the road and pray that you don't get hit by an auto ( a 3-wheeled taxi), a bus, or a scooter. Also, all the streets look the same, so I don't know who people new to the town (like me) would get around without help. It was a lot of fun though, but by far the most tiring shopping trip that I have ever been on.

... them. UCDCPC organise your next trip here! It was getting cooler as we went up. After the more familar decidious forest and extreme rock faces, the tracks leveled off and we were amoung the tea plantations (heres your tea Dave!). It was beautiful, but this part took forever - we fell asleep knackered from the night train. After getting through the usual hawkers at the train a station (it was an indian tourist spot) we got this simple but nice guesthouse along the lake.

... and continue along. Dhijan points out the various fauna along the way - cinnamon trees, fig trees and their support network, rosewood and teak trees and so on. All along the way, we feel that we are being watched - 3 pairs of eyes looking up, but umpteen watching us. A little disconcerting and the missing gun is becoming an issue. We constantly hear rustling in the bushes around us, but Dhajin doesn't look at all concerned. We hike up a bit of a hill, through masses of lemon grass and ...

"To See a World in a Grain of Sand"

A poem sent to me by my dad, and which couldn't be more appropriate to describe the atmosphere in Hampi: William Blake (1757-1927) "TO SEE A WORLD IN A GRAIN OF SAND" "To see a world in a grain of sand And a heaven in a wild flower, Hold infinity in the palm of your hand And eternity in an hour"

... my walk, I put the kingfisher in some of the cold water, sat down to write by candlelight (as the power was off again) and contemplated my next move. With all of the commercialization (there is an amusement park with a go-kart track, and paddle boats in the river) I started to realize that this was not the place for me, no matter how comfortable the temperature might be. . I resolved to go to Munnar in the morning, and enjoyed a bit of chocolate, a cold beer, and some writing before retiring.

... of the deal. Drab unimaginative boring little concrete box. Hopefully this will be changed with some thoughtful branching up. The Jackals too. Too close to the public, nowhere to hide, nervous to begin with they must be on the edge of breakdown all the while the zoo is open. There was ample scope here for increasing space for all apart from the herbivores through doubling up and creating mixed exhibits. Budgies and cockatiels together, tortoises on the bottom etc. I ...

The government had been illegally acquiring land through eminent domain in the name of the BMIC and then selling it off to developers at prices that reflected the future development going to take place there; basically making a ginormous profit in order to pay for the BMIC that will be generally unaffordable to those it has the most potential to benefit. The overall dodginess of the situation continues with this: Mr Naghabushan has been to ...

I have also been writing down lots of recipes to try out on all of you when I get back to the States (well, those of you who are actually in the States). Chaya is so excited for us to experience all of these aspects of life in India; she buys us exotic fruits for us to try, took us out to an excellent ...

Just switch your headlights on to give a signal saying, "I'm not going to stop, so you better swerve off the road or I'll hit you head on". A thing bus driver's seem to like doing a lot. We arrived unscathed at the hotel we were staying in, The Madras Race Club ...
