My friend Ryan who lived down the hall freshman year, was the sort of astonishing figure that you sorta felt could only exist in fiction, but that no author could ever come up with a character so original and richly textured. Reflecting the youth spent in Texas, he always wore a baseball cap and allowed the faintest hit of a drawl seep into his simultaneously impeccable enunciation (yes, he pronounces the Ts in button). In high school he taught himself half a dozen languages on the side to va...
Hampi, Karnataka, India david_chungI'm a natural introvert, and while I made a conscious effort in London to learn how to ape the behavior of an extrovert, my true colors become abundantly clear when you look at my activities. I have always preferred individual sports over team sports: martial arts (Karate/TKD) from grade school til graduation and again (Capoeira) in London, fencing throughout high school in liu of gym. Motorcycling, never sharing Sherry's enthusiasm for going to the London Bikers weekly meetups at Burrough Ma...

My first visit to the place was via Mangalore one of the major city in Karnataka, it was really a marvellous journey from there especially through the roads just before the Coorg's capital Madikeri.
I will add more to this later.........

Temples with towering spires called gopurams are a common feature of this state, seldom seen anywhere else in the country. Temples in Tamil Nadu were the fulcrum of society and even today art forms that have their origin in religious worship ...

Among the people who have enriched Indian Cultural Heritage and helped the cause of national integration, the people of the Kerala region of South India have a place of honour. Kerala culture is in fact, an integral part of Indian culture. Kerala like the Indian sub continent can claim to have a culture the history of which runs into the dim recesses of antiquity.
Kerala’s culture is also a ...
... was lovely, cool and breezy, with a very light drizzle. We were delighted to discover wild pink
orchids [Aerides sp.] growing on the hotels trees. Madikeri was not that bad, after all!
Breakfast
is included in the room rate at KSTDC hotels, and an excellent breakfast it was
too. The manager informed us that the
room was available for another night but we decided we did not want to stay any
longer in Madikeri.

... of the Rajiv Ghandi National Forest where our host, Rakesh was waiting on the roadside to guide us further up into the mountains. Bethel Homestay lived up to the reviews we had read with the most hospitable crew making our stay unforgettable. The highlight was definitely a sunset safari where we saw a menagerie of animals. Elephants, monkeys, water buffalo were just a few of the many Indian ...
Kodagu, Karnataka, India krupnicksgo... the authentic taste. I had to survive on basic veg food while everyone else feasted on Handi curry. All of us were tired after the trekking, decided against drinking and hit the bed relatively early today. We settled the bills as we were leaving early the next day as Auri had to catch a bus back to Pune. Again I was the first one to wake up. I woke up everyone else. We got dressed quickly and took last few pics and left. On our drive back we stopped at the Elephant ...
Madikeri, India rachealp... in the world. After a total of 15 km (almost 9.5 miles), we arrived in another fairly small town. After a quick meal (similar to lunch with a different stew) we all piled into a cabin to spend the night. Originally we were going to spend the night camping in tents, but again decided we would test the waters with trekking in India before we go all out. The next day, we woke up early and traveled a bit to the start of our next hike. Unlike the previous day ...
Madikeri, India pomide... Unbelievable: I see roadworkers, which do the works old style. Means: no machines, only handwork and then the build such an amazing Palace. Inside and outside. Once again I ask myself: How did the do it it 200 years ago?...No clue... One thing I've learnt in India: There's nothing which doesn't exist. There's always a surprise! And it has a great market. They sell: fruit, vegetables, coloured powder, household things, oils, spices......
