As the tour guide spoke no English we thought we were stopping off for a quick toilet break in some sort of tourist attraction resort. Jon got off the bus and I stayed with our belongings. ... bowl filled with chilli oil (with lots of red chillis bobbing in it) and inside that, a circular bowl filled with stock. We added the veg (the helpful staff got us going by tipping all our potatoes in) and after a while, removed it from the centre bowl, and into the chilli oil, where we attempted to fish it out again with chopsticks and add it to bowls of watery soy sauce we had been given.
