... couple of years later in France, but of meningitis and pneumonia. Dear Friends, it was a sobering day. We can certainly be very proud as Canadians of our contribution in WW1, particularly for the liberation of Belgium. But at such astronomical cost. On one of the gravestones at Tyne Cot, a family wrote the epitaph “Died for the fallacy that war will end war”. That says it all.

... that is. Market Square, the city centre, was just around the corner from Sint Niklaas B&B, less than a five-minute walk. That was our first stop and it was like stepping back in time.
