Broadwalk on the Beach

Dear Family and Friends,

We strolled around for a few hours, then moved on to explore some of the local coastline. Unfortunately we had some bad news when we got back to the Hotel, that Caroline's mum has been taken into hospital, so our thoughts are with her at the moment a...

Birding

Today's weather was perfect for our adventure: a trip to Huntington Beach State Park. Huntington is located at Murrel's Inlet, south of Myrtle Beach. The beach is a small, beautiful, white sand beach with no condos, no houses, nothing to spoil your view (if you are looking north.) Tim and Brenda are birders, so we took a short walk through the woods onto a boardwalk where we saw the ...

Broadway at the Beach

We got up early and went to Calabash to buy Christmas ornaments. Then we went into Myrtle Beach to Broadway at the Beach to see the carousel that used to be in MB. We rode it every year from before I can remember until we finally got "too old" for such foolishness. The organ is there, too, but it was all closed up for the winter.

We fed the fish and ducks and then ourselves! After lunch at the Key West ...

Birds, gators, eccentric Southern getaway

Huntington Beach is about 20 minutes south of Myrtle Beach. WW and I came here because we like birds, and we saw a lot of them. One we could not photograph is the Roseate Spoonbill, which was too far away, but we saw them in our binocs.

WW saw her ...

Nice Beach, exploited employees

The pics tell the story. There are loggerhead turtle nests here. WW and I got a campsite far from the beach in a private site nestled in the forest.

Camping is $30 a night. SC has an income tax and an 8% sales tax. All of the State Park employees I met ...

October travels

... getting too much sun! Back to the coach where my son John called to say he would lose his apartment if he could not 'borrow' money! Weather has been bad and he is getting under 20 hours of work a week. Out to dinner at Outback- I drove- Charlie had been imbibing a bit tonight. Good meal, as always; on the way home saw a fast moving car run a stop sign and miss the car beside us by just inches! Scary! Home in time to watch the presidential debates. What I saw was ...
