The lady at the gate who took my boarding pass insisted that my suitcase was too big to carry on (it wasn't--for one thing, I carried it on the previous flight. For another, two people seated in the row in front of me had bags the same size that they stowed no problem), and I was too tired to argue with her, so I had to go to baggage claim and wait for my bag when we got back to Richmond.
