Leaving Nashville we drove through rural Tennessee till we got to Memphis, home of the blues. Our first stop was Graceland. We had lunch first at one of the diners then went on a 3hr tour (at least) of Graceland, going through the mansion, the property, the memorabilia, the gold records, the costumes, all the history you could think of right up to his final resting place, and then some. ... tasty. Had our poster session in the afternoon, which was productive. At 5pm, I went up to the roof to watch the ducks emerge from the lift, which was definitely the way to do it. I was feeling dizzy by the end of the ducks so went to rest. Stupid liquid in the inner ear. ...
Back to the motel to drop off our many purchases and then Steve and I headed off to the Civil Rights Museum, while John and Jenni went to the Mud Island Museum. The Civil Rights Museum was well put together even though it was going through renovations.
It was lovely to spend a few hours on our own. Had a lovely time in Memphis, one of my favourite places in America.
