Devikulam, Dist Idukki Munnar, Kerala, India, 20263
As I am in the mountains, taking a train or a bus is tricky. Turns out the only bus leaves at 6am, which of course I miss. I decide to bite the bullet and just take a taxi for 30 bucks as it's about 5 and a half hours away. We leave, and after hours we enter Munnar area, up in the Ghats, with Kelly green rolling hills covered in tea plants in zigzags. The roads are seriously curved and you can't drive further than 20 feet without a turn. I find myself beginning to feel slightly ...
Munnar, Kerala, India sangria1269... rain. To correct the sentence there was no road at all throughout the uphill (you will find some hairpin bends to).
The giant bamboos and trees will give you a horror atmosphere. We were not so scared because of our earlier trip gave us more courage. The only concern is about the car tyre. We went and couldn’t spot anything as the forest officer said… but still we gave a try till Kerala border and came back. Almost the thrill was retained and the search was ...
We leave Madurai early in the morning (after falling out with the managements ‘24hr’ checkout policy) on a four hour bus ride to Kodaikanal, which apparently is a ’bit like Switzerland’. The bus ride is uneventful (the usual big eyed babies, giggling men, small children sent in to beg etc), but after about three hours we start rising into the most beautiful countryside. The plains open up and reveal mountains and valleys and ...
Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, India thegaddabouts... The first tea was cultivated by
A.H. Sharp at Parvathi, now found in the Sevenmullay estate. In the years 1893 to
1895, the concession area was bought by Muir and Company, later to be known as James
Finlay & Company. In 1897, the Finlay estates were being supervised by Kannan
Devan Hills Produce Company, the same company that oversees the management of ...
... made our arms go all tingly so we had to swim a lot to keep warm. I had to go in fully clothed as it wouldn't be the done thing to strip off, so I had a chilly ride home with wet clothes but it was worth it. We had a river just by our guest house which was great for eveing walks. One evening we saw a huge owl, think it may have been an eagle owl. No photo I'm afraid you'll have to take my word for it, it was BIG!
Munnar, Kerala, India kim_woods... which grow every 15 days. The women go around different plantations all year around cutting tea leaves from plantation to plantation... that is why it looks so well trimmed. Hard work ..and they only get 75 rupees a day.. thats just under 1eu 50cents.!! Difficult to imagine how they can survive on so little. We visited the Top hill station, walked to the viewpoint and stood in awe of the Tamil Nadu ...
Munnar, India ruairiocWe took a car to Munnar - a 4 hour journey up swerving mountain roads to the hill stations of Munnar - approx 1600 - 1800 meters above sea level. On the way - about an hour in - we had a puncture! The driver changed the tyre in the middle of the road, making us really nervous but we were on our way in no time! Upon arrival in Munnar we discovered that it was the busiest Saturday of the year due to the school ...
Munnar, Kerela, India jimandmargarida... sitting atop a rooftop restaurant eating dinner and fireworks have started going off on the horizon. In the north, everyone walks around with a shawl wrapped around them. It's probably the most comfortable thing possible. It's kind of like everyday is a Saturday morning and you've come downstairs with your blanket ready to watch cartoons, but instead of watching cartoons you're watching the amazingness of India go by - which I guess is kind of ...
Munnar, India danielbower3... se hecen nemski odvetnik, nekaj Japoncev in indijski zakonski par.
Nachdem Lars mal wieder sehr anschaulich unsere bisherigen Erlebnisse zusammengefaßt hat, will ...
