The end of the day brought us to Mystic, CT. We walked around a bit as the sun was going down, catching some beautiful light and chatting with a road-tripping couple from Seattle. They have a motorhome and are spending a year on the road. I'm envious.

Lovely sail in to Newport this am. This is a city I really want to come back to and stay for a few days. So much to see and do! We went for a walk along the famous "Cliff Walk" a public pathway right along the ocean that is open to all and goes right in front of all the famous mansions. Most of the houses are wooden framed clapperboard and shingle houses although there are some spectacular mansions along the cliffs bordering Easton Bay which came into view as we walked the impressive coastal path. The centre of the town is quite attractive especially the port area with many quaint shops along the old wharves. There is also a lovely church in the centre called Trinity Church ...

The extravagance of these properties used for such a short period of time was quite breathtaking!
