Surprised to find a pine forest and sand dunes in Illinois but this place has them both. The nicest primitive (no hookup) campsites that I have seen on the trip. Nice soft pine needle floor and well shaded sites.

The Peoria Riverfront museum was well worth the trip into Peoria. I went to see the Jacquin exhibit on Outsider Art. Outsider Art is Art produced by artists without formal training, especially by ones who work in an idiosyncratic style and are relatively isolated from mainstream artistic trends. It often takes on the look of art created with a child like hand to art.
... We felt very out of place. We stopped into the university area to do laundry and couldn't wait to get out of there. The kids didn't seem to feel the urgency that Hugh and I felt, the outskirts of a big city scares the heck out of me. As a teenager, I was able to fly with my dad to Chicago once. Everyone came to their feet and the gentleman removed their hats and caps as the band began to play the Star Spangled Banner. After finishing everyone settled in and waited for the conductor to explain what the evening was about to bring and how the musical flavor would enlighten the crowd. Dr. Roman is the band director and had picked the evening's lineup of music.
