The day started with breakfast at the hotel and then we loaded the bus again. First stop was the Iwo Jima Memorial which is located adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery. The Iwo Jima Memorial is a tribute to the Marines. Interesting fact is that there is an extra hand in the statue. The artist said the extra hand was meant to represent the hand of God. We graciously accepted the invitation (at a cost of $59) to visit George & Martha's place (more formally known as Mount Vernon) on Wednesday afternoon. The drive there was slow - we took the odd wrong turn with Mrs G giving what I considered to be ambiguous directions!! We only arrived at 3pm and they start closing at 4:00pm...
