Vic Falls

We made it, Victoria Falls, and feeling very much like Livingston (the first white to see the falls) must have, i e tired and grubby, went looking for accommodation. With no booking this proved a little difficult but were told at the Sprayview Hotel we could have a room with twin beds. Heather pulled a look somewhere between an appeal and I'm going to dissect you, and common sense prevailed, we were provided with a double. Great except the door does not lock!! Too bad !!. A much needed shower...

He had managed this feat by thumbing lifts.............with his tent and his thumb he had travelled over a 1,000 KM's , sometimes sleeping in his tent just of the road......sometimes in Campsites..........eating admittedly not the most varied diet ....consisting of amongst other things, cold tinned spaghetti , bread and fruit that he carried with him..................
I listened intently ......and instantly new that fate had brought us together.................i carefully went over the ...

Vic Falls!

... bill that we saw was worth 100 trillion dollars! I was going to do some trading, but one of the guys touched my foot so I decided against it.
Evening was quite uneventful, we discovered that one of the working channels we have is CNN, so we quickly got caught up in the world news. Going to bed early, because we have an early pickup to head to Chobe for our safaris!

Back to the edge of the Linyati River...

... to have to find a Thesaurus (sp?) before my next safari...need new suggestions for the word amazing. I absolutely felt like a kid on Christmas morning each time a giraffe's head would become visible over a tree or bush, or when we'd spot a family of dwarf mongoose covering a giant termite mound, or when we would watch a 15 foot crocodile sunning on the bank of the river.

I still have not been able to "get" how this ...

Great African Trek Week 3

... Because of this we all went out for a big group dinner on Friday night. It was a good night as there was a group of tribal dancers on tour staying in the same campsite as us and they put on an amazing show after dinner. We then spent all day Saturday nursing sore heads by the swimming pool. We said goodbye to a few people who were leaving that night as well. After much debate we decided to go look at the Victoria Falls on Sunday. The reason we were contemplating not going is ...

My Last Friday

... were talking about me - the grade 1 muzungu teacher. Back to the cards, they each wrote a message inside one card. I specifically did not read them until I got on the truck because, first, they truck was there when they gave the cards to me and had already been waiting a bit so I didn't want to keep them waiting any longer, and second - I figured I would start tearing up and didn't want to do that and delay everyone even longer with more good-byes. Lions and tigers and bears - oh, my!

Okay, not tigers and bears - but lions are correct - and elephants! Today I did a lion walk in the morning and an elephant walk in the afternoon. Both were really very neat. Again, I have LOTS of photos that I am not able to upload because of the connection speed. The lion walk was in the morning, and it is with a project that is part of African Impact (our group). Guides meet you and give you an orientation of dos and don'ts for the lions ...

One evening we also had a fancy dress night in which we picked a name out a hat, went to the local markets and choose an outfit for that person up to $4-$5. Refer to photos on facebook which I will hopefully post soon!

Leaving here tomorrow so pre packed as much as we could in preparation for the early morning leave. Managed to sweet talk the manager into letting me use his computer as he had skype. Got through to the bank who confirmed they had put a stop on our cards because they were being used ...

Day 191 - Zambia, Vic Falls - Vic Falls

... yeah I know, like a km or something yeah" "ummmm no, try 9km" "F*#@!". Mood worsens slightly. Thankfully a nice couple answered our hitching hand and drove us free of charge to the falls, where they too were going. Lovely. Mood improves slightly. The falls Zambia side are incredible as they appear so much closer. We walked along the river where there is a jutting out piece of land you can stand on just ...
