... a bit out of the way for getting to Salzburg but many pretty scenes, houses and mountains were evident on the road there. This little town is very pretty indeed – high, snowy mountains and a great big lake. Plenty of pretty little houses also. ... we couldn't see it that well because there were clouds covering the mountain tops on that side of the valley. But the view was still amazing. Because at the head of the valley was a smaller snow-covered mountain called Johanisberg. And descending from the mountain and into the valley was the largest glacier in the eastern Alps, the Pasterzengletscher. We later learned that the glacier has retreated 2 km in recent history, and is expected to be completely gone in 35 years ...
