Highest waterfall in Europe

Krimml is home to the highest waterfalls in Europe. I took a quick day trip out there, and took a gander at them. This is another example of how fit the people of teh Alps are. I was told it was an easy trail that anyone can hike - only 4 km. In Canada, an easy trail is really something that anyone, regardless of level of fitness or hiking experience, can do. So I was wearing a dress and sandals. Ya, this was not ...

Relaxing day in Auronzo and Cortini

Today was a slow day. We drove out to Auronzo, which is a small lakeside town that we passed on the way to Cortina from Uldine on Sunday. We hiked around the lake and walked around town some, grabbing ice cream and window shopping at the craft and souvenir stores.

Bike Ride to Prato Piazza

... were gone, Cindy and Alycia walked around town some and went to a market next to the hotel. They grabbed pizza at a new restaurant, which all of us returned to that night for a nice dinner. Trey and I ate several meals apiece in a single sitting to make up for the energy expended during the day. We have a newfound appreciation for the bikers competing daily in the Tour de France this month.

Hiking the Dolomites

... nice views off of the trails of Rio de Fanes and we then returnied to Alycia, who happened to be right next to the falls we were looking for. It was a 3 hour hike covering about 7 miles going up to 1500 meters or more.

Trey was feeling better late in the day, so the family walked around town a while tonight before eating dinner and calling it a night. Tomorrow will be much more strenuous as Trey and I are planning an all-day bike ride.

Trekking and Climbing in the Dolomites

... Berlin while we went to Verona from where we were to fly back the next day.

So on the afternoon of day 6 we arrived in Verona, found a very helpful tourist office at the train station that could supply us with accomodation options. We opted for the local university accomodations which were smack bang in the centre and very affordably rented out during the summer break. It was an ancient building with quite a bit of athmosphere to it. And everywhere was just ...

Darn Dangerous Disappearing Dolimites

... we bought an expresso in a bar the barman asked for money in Italian and thanked us in German.... then spoke to the next man in French? At least that's what it sounded like. So.... I'm going to stick with my stupid tourist look and a big smile. I get a lot of milege out of that!
We learned a lot about the politics here, and about the wildlife (somehow that seems to be related).
All good things must come to an end so ...

Bad Aussee- Zell am See - Dobbiaco

... cant mistake when you cross the border from Austria into Italy!!! the perfect roads and maintained properties stop abruptly!! I found what turned out to be a fantastic free camp spot well back off the road, next to a creek, hidden from the highway, bordering a national park because I was getting tired and it was late, but I wasnt very popular! we were going to get murdered in our beds, you dont know what sort of people they are ...

Deciding about the cities we would like to visit

Here there is a map in Google Maps where you will see the cities that we plan to visit this year. All of them are new for us, although we are old Spain travelers. The planned route is the blue one. The red one is called "Plan B" in case of bad weather or other reasons of changing our plans.

A drive to the Dolomites

... towns. The route also provided a plethora of 50km/hr zones. The trip took us about 6 hours to travel 174kms. The hills are amazing, with cliff top castles dotting the landscape. We didn't think Italy was much for castles, but we were wrong. Or perhaps this is a reflection that much of this land used to be part of the Austrian ...
