... we had several miles of worry, not to mention several more miles of ridiculous, and I mean ridiculous, sharp, high incline hairpin bends to negotiate. After about half an hour of going up and round, up and round, I was beginning to think this would be the most unlikely place for a border crossing ever. But a border crossing, some 6000ft in the air, it was. And through a tunnel in the mountain (at the halfway mark of which read a sign saying 'welcome to Slovenia', a ...

Today (Tuesday) we decided to go for a walk along to the next village Canazei. This is a huge ski area in the winter and it's weird seeing all the ski lifts in the summer. We had a lovely walk for about an hour or so through the ...

... in another country. The architecture changed suddenly to typically Alpine lodges with murals painted on the sides of the buildings, and the fields became meadows dotted with little rustic log huts, and the road went up and up. Actually going up was no real problem but coming down.... That was more of a challenge, especially on the very steep Zirlerberg Pass down to Innsbruck. The road decline was 16% which doesn't sound too bad but it ...
