After lunch we visited Runkelstein Castle, a medieval fortress built in the 1200's. It's main claimm to fame is the large number of period frescos painted about 100 years later. After various periods of disuse and damage, the castle and frescos were restored for public viewing in 2000.

... a couple light pasta entrees and we did not disagree. Chris had a ricotta and spinach tortellati ragout and mine was tagliatelle fatte (kind of a wide, flat noodle) with radicchio and bresaola. ... place. Chris said it was probably not as popular as the bigger cities, and I agreed. For dinner, we eventually happened on La Torcia, just a typical cafe with outside seating beneath umbrellas. We had pizza and white house wine, sitting at a little table. The local chanterelles were just coming in to market, so that's what I chose for my pizza, at Guido's recommendation. The pizza came quickly, ...

... the front end of the truck! As the roads in these parts are steep and dangerous Ramo thought a visit to an Italian garage would be imperative. No brake pads! …. so we made arrangements at the mechanics and booked into a camp site on the edge of Lago Calceranica for the weekend. Great swimming, lovely talkative Netherlanders and good bike paths ... we enjoyed the enforced lay-over
    period.
