Day 25 - Bruck to St Johann

A travel blog entry by grmps on Oct 01, 2015

... off - the first time for a couple of weeks. I even had to hunt for my sunglasses, a treat indeed. Driven indoors when the sun set, we had a light evening meal. Well not too light, for me at least, after another dose of cake. No piccies today. We've seen dozens of creative scenes constructed with straw, mostly people and animals, all at the roadside so not easy to photograph while on the move. Mileage: ...

More blue stuff, even after a very leisurely get-up-and-go. Or not-go as we are staying here for a second night. Given the weather, we consider it's time to scale an Alp before we run out of blue sky/Alps/time. Grossglockner beckons, but having abandoned thoughts of the drive, we're left with getting as high as we can by ski-uplift, or by hijacking a plane. Sandra suggested it might be worth hiring a plane, but in the end ...

    ... Salzburg.

We took the side road to Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Hohe. You're right up in amongst the mountains with fantastic views of Mt Grossglockner and a glacier. There's also a car exhibition here too. Back on the road to the top of the pass there had been some early snow. There were plenty of areas to stop for photos and scenic ...

OK, where's Bruck? The GPS doesn't know either, offering about 20 alternatives, none of which seemed to point to where we wanted to go. Anyway, Zell am See is near enough - but don't look up Zell either. There's dozens of 'em too. Just think south of Salzburg. For mountain lovers think Grossglockner, just the 3,789 metres. Enough geography at 8:00am, we just opened the curtains to blue sky. I had to capture this with the trusty camera, with a just a few leaves ...

    A short ride to Millstatt

... short ride but one that will stay for a long while in my memory.

After another top quality Gasthof Hochalmspitze dinner it was time to study the maps. Tomorrow is the start of our journey home and we have no routes or overnight stops planned. It will either be 2 or 3 nights, depending on whether we stick to quiet roads or hit the motorways for part of the ...
