Yay for dietary requirements! We've been fed terrible thick bum sandwiches so I switched to lactose free diet for the rest of the trip. There are two gluten free and two vegetarians on the trip and now I've joined their ranks. What this means is I get salads for lunch instead of horrible sandwiches. We have been fed so much bread on this trip that all of us are just sick of it. And so ...

... Austria and we had thought it would be enjoyable to drive. That was months ago during holiday planning before we hired a van and drove on the "wrong" side of the road!!!! Anyway Plan B was to drive to Eagles Nest, Hitlers hideaway, in the Alps. If it was still awful weather we'd just find a nice place to have lunch and head home again. After packing this morning we popped out for breakfast before heading off to Kufstein in Austria The road wound through some spectacular alpine country, passing by Zugspitz, Germany's highest mountain. Every holiday maker seemed to be taking to the road as many RV's and caravans passed us going in the opposite direction. Many motor bike riders were out for a ride as well. The road eventually flattened out onto the autobahn where ...

... fast ride up the gondola took us high up the mountain where we could explore from. I wasn't really prepared for the altitude or hiking in the leather boots, jeans and the light cardigan I had down in the village, but I should know by now to always be prepared for a short "walk". The views, I seriously will never tire of the the amazing views. It has been great sharing this with Michael's parents - I know they are pretty amazed with the Austrian countryside.

... to be in the apartment. Annie went off for swim in the very nice pool next door. Free for us, part of the apartment deal. Annie reports it was beautiful, warm and puts our public pools to shame. Now after a nice meal and more wonderful Austrian wine we shall settle down to Poldark.... sad I know.

Tomorrow we are off to ...
