... said the first...so we went with the kids directions. Unfortunately we should have went with the internet...but we ended up finding it no problems after we got a little help from a different hostel. We checked in and went to our room...we were sooo happy to see they actually had an elevator, so we didn't have to walk the 4 flights (8 flights in Canada) to our room! We pretty much just hung around the hotel for a few hours and ...
Salzburg, Austria kkb-myadventure... the way, we stopped at Mozart’s house, which was admittedly a little anticlimactic. Anyway, the gardens are the site of several shots from The Sound of Music, which gave me a little more inspiration than usual while sketching. After getting a few drawings in, we headed over to the train station for my first falafel sandwich (they are everywhere in Europe, so this is surprising) and the beginning of our trip to Vienna!
Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria cmvanacker... We have decided to stay here for another day as we need to rest and we could not agree on a place to stay next as all the hotels in Munich are so expensive so going to have another look tomorrow.
Monday
Not much to write about today, just woke up late and got our stuff sorted and then had a walk to Mcdonalds to get a quick bite to eat. Had another massive row about where we are staying in Munich as everywhere is like ...
... all in a row!!
Walked to the Augustiner Beer Hall and it took me a while to work out how their whole system works... you pick up a stein from a shelf filled with mugs, then you line up and pay for the beer and get a receipt, then you rinse your beer mug under the beer washing fountain, then you take your clean mug and receipt to another dude who pours your beer for you.
Talk about complicated!!!
Anyway, finally got a beer and and some awesome roast pork from one ...
... of Music' (filmed in Salzburg) to get us in the mood.
On the way in, we managed to experience multiple weather conditions for our poor busdriver to negotiate; it went from overcast, to a little drizzle, to ******* down rain, to snowing (yes - you read correctly!) to sunny, back to the blasted rain! Four seasons indeed... But it was absolutely amazing driving through the snow covered fields and getting our first glimpse of the famous Austrian Alps.
Salzburg, our final ...
... is where Chepe and Maria's son, daughter-in-law and grandkids live - we had planned a little detour to their house to see them for a little over an hour. Sabine had a nice cake and coffee for us and we played badminton with Simon and Miriam - while Sharon and Christoph went to run a few errands. It was nice to see them again. We had about a three hour drive after leaving Fieberbrunn and it was such a beautiful drive ...
Fieberbrunn, Austria jimstephkrueger... complaints come to mind, but we really have been able to sort them out for ourselves. I wonder how I can be so moody at home and yet let things roll off my back here...It must be Europe... I really enjoyed reading while waiting for the train for about 3 hours...I know I should have been exploring, even with my heavy pack with me, but I really love reading and relaxing. I was glad for the chance to do it. That´s when I came across Budapest in my book! The ...

We left Kitzbuhel at 8:30. There was a brief stop in Berchtesgarden, in Germany, at 10:00. Up on the side of the mountain, we could see Hitler's Eagle’s Nest. It was rather chilling to see that part of history. The bunker is now a restaurant. Our rest stop overlooked a valley filled with wonderful homes. What a view! Back on the bus and on to Salzburg. Time 10:35.
... so beautiful. For lunch, we had Wiener Schnitzel (breaded pork)…my first. Everything was delicious.
After lunch, we walked over to the Mirabel Palace to view the gardens. The intricate patterns of the annual gardens were amazing. (The rose garden was not too shabby, either.) After leaving Mirabel, we went to the Salzburg Cathedral, first built in 774. I took a few pictures, but stopped ...
... business). We saw some really nice things that we would have liked to buy, but were concerned about getting them home safely and conveniently, so we only bought one souvenir for ourselves. The rain stopped about 2:00 pm, so we decided to head up to the mountaintop again. It was much clearer today (also much colder!), and we were able to see more than yesterday. We were able to view three sides of the valley and all of the views were just breathtaking ...
