    ... we had a drink at the bar and took our laptop down there where it works a lot better!! Tonight we walked down to what seems like a local social club. It was full of Austrians and they seem to be enjoying themselves. The meal was okay – I had fish but as you can tell it wasn’t outstanding. Doesn’t matter. Back in the room for planning for tomorrow and it doesn’t seem that noisy after all thank goodness.

    ... Hitler and his senior staff and included the sophisticated bunker system, residences, including Hitler's residence known as Berghof. Eagle's Nest was intended to be a place for Hitler to entertain visiting dignitaries, but he rarely visited the site as he was afraid of heights. Anyway, I had signed us up for a tour with Eagle's Nest Tours, which was a highly, highly rated small group tour to Eagle's Nest.

    ... br> We had our cabbie let us off at the far end of the village and we wandered back through so I could stop at the bank. We had decided to grab some lunch and then catch “Stephanie” back to the train station for the train trip to Bad Ischl and then the bus trip to Salzberg. (We had been advised to get off the train at Bad Ischl and catch the bus because the bus route was through the scenic Salzkammergut district (the lake district) outside of Salzberg.

    ... that the corpse dated back more than 3,000 years. At one time, the region was incredibly wealthy because of its abundance of salt. (Until the invention of refrigeration, salt was a primary commidity with a value similar to gold.) Today, Hallstat's salt mine remains active, but most of its salt is removed by mechanical means although men still work the equipment in the mine. Visitors can tour the mine so that is what we planned for the afternoon.
