Thursday 16th October Sad to say goodbye to Halstätt and our guesthouse but onward. Walked around the end of the lake in the rain, but luckily it was light and only lasted about half an hour. Along another track with lots of trucks for a while, but mud was only on the surface, so all good. Then across the river and along the railway till we got to Koppenbrüllerhöhle. This is the point where the cave river exits to join the river below. It is dry at present so not ...

We found parking in a large public lot a little ways outside of the center of town, with a clearly designated walking path leading us right to the edge of the lake. Walked the streets, did some shopping, had lunch, visited the pilgrimage church with its famous altar by ...

... to finish the journey. I can't believe how stunning the scenery is, certainly gives NZ and Canada a run for their money. Arrived at Bad Ischl and found the place where we had our briefing for the walk and collected all the necessary vouchers. They even gave us a free schnapps. Found our way to the hotel (at the other end of town) and went for a walk around the town. First had lunch at a bakery, had no idea what we had, all local ...

... Wagner's, dead mask was in the museum too. I liked the royal family picture and the section about his engagement with his cousin Sophie. Prince Otto is 3 years younger than Ludwig II.

The famous and memorable things in the palace was the magic table (that was much bigger than I thought!) and ...
