First when we came in there were wooden boards for plates with knifes and HUGE napkins.The guy came in and told us we had to use our fingers and we could use the knife for the bread. After a drive through Northern Italy we arrived at Innsbruck. The entire drive was effected on the autostrada for a total toll of 33.10 Euro or close to $37. We were supposed to take the cable cars and cog wheel train to Alpspix and Zugspitz for Adrian's birthday but it snowed overnight and both mountains were covered in cloud. We had to come up with a plan B and found the very pretty town of Mittenwald was close by. The buildings in this part of Bavaria are painted with murals which is quite different to other areas. Literally. The past few weekends all the cows and goats are being brought down from the high pastures where they have been grazing for the summer. It's a pretty big deal in the villages - called Almabtried - and the usually Saturday market is ramped up to include traditional music, crafts, and an extra selection of beer, schnapps, sausage, cheese and bread (can you hear my gut gurgle!).
