Last Full Day in Andorra

... having a beer and watching a man try to dig his van out of the snow. To my knowledge his van is to this moment where it was when I left the bar.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to post some pictures of Canillo when it's snowy and the sun comes out. Don't have too many, but figured it was worth a post.

The Two Faces of Andorra

... month). I wandered around Andorra la Ville, the capital city here, for the majority of today. This is when I realized the importance of shoes that don't get wet in the snow, even my two pairs of socks defense was useless to stand up to the icy attacker. When I realized everything in the capital relates to shopping for things that cost insane amounts of money, I decided to trek back here and post some pictures. Hope you like them and I'll keep you updated.

Change of Plans?

Found out today that the 90 day tourist visa that I thought we were granted for each country is actually for the combined Senchgen countries. Since we'll be at least 60 days in France alone, it means we won't be doing the France, Italy, Greece and then Turkey route we had planned on in the length of time we'd ...

Tales from the Pit

... on the pavement before us are things we‘ve seen all along our travels in France. But neither of these are edible and so interest me little. At the farm there are a few new nut trees: walnut and chestnut.

Having never been a nut eater, this is a new culinary adventure I‘ve been slowly traveling on the last few years. Able to only bear shredded cocunut in baking and the odd candied almond, I‘m now embracing nuts of ...

... refrigeration for the meat. With wind-chill, that was absolutely frigid for 45 minutes! And with the winding mountain roads, the weight of the meat kept shifting into me with the occasional trotter popping out from under the covering.

Watching Austin process the carcase into usable joints of meat was truly a work of art. His knife flew, knowing exactly where to cut and slicing with one quick motion. Any small ...

Bums, Belays, and Look out Below!

... person above is literally in your hands.

All in all it was a fabulous day! Did 4 climbs in total ranging through the 5a, 5b, and 5c levels of difficulty. I wanted to try a 5, but the day went by too quickly. There was one climb that Brain was sweating out for quite awhile, but in the end his determination conquered it. Rock climbing is the perfect blend of challenge and rest in beautiful mountain settings. I may be hooked…

Boarder Patrol

... br>
Despite the dogs and the cold and wind, we did manage a little hike up past a waterfall up to a beautiful plateau area with mountains all around. Huddled behind a rock to provide some resistance from the wind, we scarfed down a bit of picnic lunch before running back to the truck for warmth. Then it was down into the town of Ax to soak our cold feet into some hot springs.
... names accompanied by dates. Locals exploring the area long ago and the first few archaeologists to grace the entrance marked their territory with the addition of a slightly more distinguished ‘so-in-so was here’. Dates of 1655 and 1848, with the earliest being 1602. Of course no one is allowed to do this anymore since the cave has been open to the public, but I think that my name and date would be very interesting in 300 years time!

Port Vendres, Collioure, Quillan and Foix

... it a try. We followed the sign down narrow lanes for several miles and finally up a steep unmade track to a farm. When we got there, the farmer told us it wasn't open as the facilities weren't ready. Aaaaaaaaaargh! The signs were some of the best we'd encountered in France, but the toilets were in pieces around the field! Back to plan B, we followed another well sign-posted route to a village camping, and this too was closed ...
