I Miss Warmth

... the occasional really awesome old church. Instead of arriving at the main train station, like the stupid Eurail guide says we were going to, we arrrived at one north of town. The main station is right on Wenceslas Square (almost) and that is the start of things to see in central Prague. The one we got in at required me to change money, buy a ticket on the metro, make a change, and figure out, via a little map from my Lonely Planet guide, the best place to get ...

A night at the opera

... and as I puffed my way down there I noted the time was ticking by. At the new place I walked into a bar wondering where the Internet part was. I asked a pretty barmaid if they had the Internet, 'Yes' she confirmed, 'out the back'. 'Can I print something?' 'Yes.' 'Does the printer have black ink?' I asked. She looked puzzled at this. I headed down the back and put my memory stick into the allotted computer. 'You have insufficient privileges to install this device' the computer told ...

Another day in Praha

... we are always the ones to step aside or try to make room, but there is no effort on the other side, and if they happen to knock you over as they pass you, they'll give you a dirty look for being there. Okay, I just had to get that out. The only other place we really felt other tourists like this was actually at the castle in Salzburg. It's sad, but it can really take a toll on how much you enjoy the day, and ...

my last night

... to a pub for a beer. PJ made a lovely dinner of rice and stir-fry veggies. It's sad to say goodbye but at the same time, at the end of any trip away, getting back to normal is welcomed. But I will miss it here and hope to get back - in a summer climate. This is a beautiful city and the beer is SO good. Miller Lite just won't taste the same when i get home :) xo J

Back into Eastern Europe and new adventures

... to try out the hammock and Cecky was perfect for that. Besides that...Ohhh... the food, the best and cheapest that I have had in Europe. I met Jenna, a Kiwi, (New Zea lander) and spent the afternoon with her where we had a great lunch at small restaurant that I had been before. As the day wore on, it seemed more and more to me that Jenna was troubled by something. Instead of pressing her I moved on and hit the bars and some great Budweiser ...

Week 7 - What happens in Prague, stays in Prague

... we caught an overpriced cab to the right one. We were a bit frazzled, but made the train in plenty of time in the end. I was surprised to see that the first class car seemed to have been overbooked (or some people were in the wrong car?) Luckily, we had seat reservations, so no problem for us. And on the train, we heard a couple other groups talk about going to the wrong train station as well. So word to the wise - if you are taking a train from ...

Prague, day two

... dragged on forever. Some Czechs put on a dance and music performance. By the end, we couldn't wait to get out of there. We found some more people and headed to a different club a few doors down from the one we were at the night before. We started outside with a few drinks where I had my first absynth shot ever. We couldn't figure out what to do with the sugar so I just ate a packet to follow the shot. Disgusting. Then we went inside and danced the night away. Another late, good night.

Praha - The Golden City

... those wooden, hand painted stacking dolls. Jewish Prague On my second day in Prague I headed early to Josefev - the Jewish Quarter of Prague. This area was originally the ghetto where early kings forced the Jewish community to live in tight quarters. The close proximity is highlighted when I walked in the Jewish Cemetry where thousands and thousands of headstones (12,000 approximately) compete for each inch of space ...

Quick entry from the place of strawberries

... change from our 12 degrees in Brugge. So I'm also very tired and not in the mood for a long thinking entry. Last night we arrived from Dresden, the bus trip took longer than expected. We got to the border fine, but then found out there had been a crash on the other side and the delay was 4 hours. Yuck. We fnially went for a windy drive (in a bus too big for the roads) to another crossing and ...
