Splendid Hotel & Spa Nice

Stayed for 3nights from 5th Dec- 8th Dec. Booked through hotelopia and had a great deal. Room was clean and comfortable. Very good value for money. All staff were very helpful. I would recommend this hotel.

The restaurant is run by another company and they have a relaxed attitude to customer service. Complaints to the hotel reception cut no ice. Ditch breakfast at busy times of year - they treat all guests as if they were on cheap package tours. Definitely more Faulty Towers than Splendid.

Upon arrival we were assigned a room which was at best described as dire. It was drab and in need of some urgent re-decoration. However, after stating our concerns we were moved to a 'Deluxe' room which was much better and had a big balcony (although still only a 3 star standard). The room was kept spotlessly clean by the very friendly maid service. The bed was very uncomfortable and we both came home with back ache. I found it difficult to see where the non smoking rooms were as our 'non smoking' room had 2 ashtrays!

The hotel is close to the beach and the facilities in the hotel nominated beach are very good and make for a relaxing (if expensive) day out.

I did not try the hotel restaurant but did have a few drinks at the 8th floor bar. I could not quite believe the prices - 7 pounds for a single shot of

amaretto liqueur.

All in all we were disappointed by the hotel and Nice as a resort - very expensive, difficult to find anything authentically French to eat and almost certainly I felt it to be a tourist trap.

Booked after reading the reports on this site. Unfortunately, although I requested a non smoking room . I was given a smoking room. Room was dark, small and in urgent need of an update.



Food at the hotel restaurant was excellent but don,t expect to put on weight as the portions were very small.

Nice terraced pool and bar.

Excellent rooms with balconies, 5 mins stroll to promenade, quiet location. Ideally situated.

Rooftop pool small but fantastic views, staff very helpfull, would stay again.

We managed to get a deluxe room at the hotel and it was large with a balcony with a lovely view. Clean too but bit disappointed on the soft pillows.

Though I would be careful cos on having a quick glimpse at other deluxe rooms I dunno if they are all that big !

Thought for the money they were charging it was a bit on the expensive side and would have said it was more a 3 star than 4 star.

Be careful of the private beach ! Hotel guests are supposed to have a discount for the chairs¶sols but this changed daily from 24 to 29 euros. Normal price is 29 euros.

Nice clean hotel,5 mins from promenade and beach. Great rooftop pool for sunbathing early morning,helpful staff and would stay again.

The hotel splendid is conveniently located near the beach and the promenade des angles. It's a bit of a hike to Old Towne or the Train station, but not too bad. The pool and jacuzzi on the roof provide a great view of the city. The room was nice and it had a balcony. I would stay there again.

I stayed here with my husband in August 2003 and we both thought it was a wonderful hotel. We received a free upgrade to a deluxe room on arrival which was great. The hotel was reasonably priced with friendly staff and lovely, clean, big room with balcony and large bathroom with jacuzzi bath. Having a swimming pool was a big plus and the views from the roof terrace were fantastic. Great location, really near to the beach but in a quiet area of town. Highly recommended and we would definitely stay here again.

Really enjoyed the hotel and the friendly staff. Would return. However, the food at the hotel's Chez Hugo resturant was very poor and overpriced. The 'chips' served with the tiny portions of fish were exactly like MacDonalds and literally were heaped on the plate completely hiding the tiny portion of fish. The steak was miniscule and overdone. The hotel waived the price of two meals but it spoilt the evening for both couples. But I must add that the waiter was very good and friendly. This may, of course, been an 'unlucky' night, but I wouldn't chance it again.
