      Travel Blogs from Naxos

      Greece is the Word

Naxos was a wonderful choice for our first Greek island experience. With accommodations 150m away from the beach and 200m away from the town's main promenade, we were perfectly positioned in Chora. Caleb's schooling routine now established, he began the day with 1hr "Phys. Ed." With dad on the beach, 2hrs of the R's with me, lunch, and then time to explore before dinner at a seaside taverna. What bliss.

Beyond the town lies greater Naxos: tiny villages ...

First of all we left the town and drove into the heart of the island, where we went to a small village. Here we went to see an olive press museum, then walked down and saw a traditional ceramic maker. We saw how he made his pots and jars. We then got back on the bus and left that village and went to another village. Here we went to a distillery museum, where we got to do some tastings of the product, hear about the history and see some of ...

After dropping off my stuff i went for a walk along the St George's beach. I walked right to the end, had a swim, then walked back to the other end of the beach and had a drink at the bar. I then walked back to the hotel/ hostel.

Here i meet some new roommates, did some reading, then headed out into town. I went to the main square, walked around, found a tour place and booked a tour ...

      ... checked it out.

I first walked along the beach, explored it, then found a spot to swim, was in the water for a few minutes, came out, then walked along the beach some more, then walked back to the hostel. I then got changed, read, relaxed and then left the hostel to find a place for dinner. I waked to the main square, found some more hire places, then looked around the main square, found a place for ...

... Dimitra, dating back to 530 BC and made entirely of marble, more beautiful beaches (plaka was stunning) and visited more gorgeous towns as well as the Archeological museum in the town of Perenteus. It was full of old bowls, cups etc, up to 7000 years old. At dinner Julie and I shared a bottle of wine and the waitstaff thought we were pretty hardcore. I don't think they drink a lot here! Although we haven't really been drinking much either because there is so much to ...
