I'm getting quite useless at this! Always forgetting to blog. I've had a brilliant few days in chiang Mai staying at spicy. Met some really cool people that maybe I'll run into again sometime! Since my last post I have done quite a lot. Thursday morning we all went to a big lake and some people went swimming but most of us ended up cracking open a …

We arrived in Chiang Mai via overnight train at around 11 this morning. The train was surprisingly good! It was delightful to sleep with A/C and it was nice to see some of the countryside as well. When we got off we were once again shocked by the heat. Somehow Chiang Mai is even hotter than Bangkok (around 40 degrees without the humidity). I'm not …

Train into Chiangmai

A travel blog entry by annavan

We wake up stupidly early at 7:30 because the train is so bumpy and loud. Every time it stops, which it does every 5 mins for about 20 minutes for no reason, it makes this screeching noise that is deafening. I know I'm moaning, sorry Sophie, but eve and I were expecting something a little different. We wanted to get the 2nd class bed with aircon, …

5 hours after getting on the but to Chiang Mai, I had arrived! It was time to part ways with Becky who was carrying on to Laos. I found a map and worked out the way to my hostel.. Okay so my map reading skills have gone a little downhill since my days of hiking across Dartmoor doing Ten Tors.. What would have been 10 minute walk turned into a 50 …

To celebrate Xmas eve and the fact that its incredible sunny and doesn't even feel like Xmas, Mark from Surrey and Louis from New York ecided to get a red truck taxi up to the 'temple on the hill' and hiked back down stopping off at little waterfalls and one big one along the way, It was about 8km in total so not too bad. The one thing we did find …

Such friendly and helpful staff. Really social scene and free breakfast! Really good location within walking distance of city centre. Would recommend to anyone.

Best hostel you will ever stay in

The most personal hostel ever, more like a family home with a lounge and kitchen, you eat with your fellow travellers and become a little family unit for your stay.

Highly recommended, despite it's further than normal proximity from the city walls.
