          ... around the rice paddies outside the town of Banyuwangi (great name!) it was peaceful and refreshing. We found the homestay we were looking for- Kampung Osing Inn- and luckily they had space for us. Not that we'd actually be sleeping there for much of that evening, it was more a base. We had quite a night planned.

          We hired a scooter from a shopkeeper opposite the nearby train station, bought a few supplies for our upcoming trek up Ijen and ate a hearty chicken dinner ...

          ... and certainly do not miss jumping into a cold car in the middle of winter. The children are out for school holidays, many families are out Christmas shopping and the malls are decked in decorations and the sound of Christmas carols.           ... are no published routes, and only one angkot of the many we got on yesterday had a number -- 02.

          Once we arrived back at the hotel we were really hot and just decided to go lay in the pool, which is always chilly (surprisingly since it is 90 degrees here all the time). After an afternoon of that we showered up and went down the street to Lau's Kopi's (sp?) - an authentic indonesian place - and I had the Ifu mie seafood. It was like a ramen noodle with steamed veggies ...
