Zion National Park and Mesa Verde National Park

... Park, where we had one intention. hike in one of the narrow canyons of or near by the national park. We ended up renting some footwear and we headed into the Narrows of Zion canyon on the Virgin River. the neoprene socks and sticky shoes were great. We wandered up the canyon until the narrows got narrower. How wonderful to get up into such beautifully carved and gently lighted rock. We just stayed at the park for a ...

We Nailed It!

Yay! Tonight we had our first show (1 of 2) in Durango, CO and it went phenomenal! Everyone kept talking about how "it' happened. For those of you that have been involved with theatre before, then you know that "it" is. During each of our songs tonight there was an ephemeral moment, a moment in which we all felt the goosebumps and had to blink back tears. We felt like the audience could really understand our message and music. We touched lives tonight ...

Total Exhaustion

... feet?

Yeah. Talk about a workout.

With a heavy backpack on my back, a large trail tool in one hand and a radio device in the other, I hiked and hiked and hiked. Stopping only to drink water and apply more sunscreen, the hike took almost an hour in the blazing sun. There were times when I felt like I had reached the point of total exhaustion but my father's voice saying "Ironwoman" kept echoing in my head, pushing me forward.

And my ...

What a view! We made it to Durango, CO!

... Below, the sun bounced off the shimmering crystal clear water as it flowed rapidly down the mountain. Every once in a while, we would spot a deer or two! The view even distracted us from the twisting, turning mountain roads sans guardrails. It was truly glorious and an amazing testiment to God's creation.

Those mountain roads also provided the perfect setting for bus surfing! We stood in the aisles of the bus - sometimes ...

Centennial Peak Hike

... ricocheted off the walls of the bowl, appeared to dissipate, then echoed back off the walls of the adjacent rifts after delays of more than 5 seconds. No wonder they were an hour late.

Unfortunately, the camera battery was charging back at the house. While it was nice to have a light load, the cell phone camera doesn't produce great shots. Better than nothing though.

We visit the AMAZING Mesa Verde

... in another self-guided tour of Spruce House - again amazing. Uneventful drive back thru wonderful scenery and an EXCELLENT meal in "Seasons of Durango" on Main Street which we rate as equal-best meal of the whole trip. We had steak and if was spectacular and not rushed. We were served by Dominique who's spent some time Czechoslovakia over the summer and understood the Continental approach to evening meals. If you're in Durango you must go to this restaurant.

The Ending

... interacting with other cultures, of attempting to look through the eyes of others, to see the infinite facets to every issue. Traveling reminds me of the irresponsibility in acting righteous and in making assumptions. I, of course, continue to do both of those things ... Furthermore, I believe I've come to understand certain things that were unclear to me the first few times I left this country. For instance, no matter how much interaction I have with other cultures, I will ...
