There is yet another fair in Basel right now, the Herbstmesse (Autumn Fair). It is huge! Carnival rides, food stalls, and booths selling trinkets are spread throughout the city. We got back in Basel late yesterday afternoon. We had lots of time to sort out our luggage and for mom and dad to repack for their journey today. Today it was time to say good-bye. They are driving back to Paris and flying home midday tomorrow. I had parked their rental car in an underground garage right by my apartment. ... around the river and had a bit of a look. I also went into one of the Churches and climbed to the top of the bell tower to get a good view of the city. It also had a really cool fountain thing with machinery spurting out water. Aside from that there wasn't a great amount in the city but was a nice little place to visit.

This was what I really came to Europe for. Freiburg was just the beginning of an awesome adventure for me. The mountains and the forest and the cake. We caught a cable car up to the top of the mountain and wandered in the snow. Got some great photos. We made Freiburg our base and toured a fair bit around the region. We had the compartment to ourselves virtually the entire time. Paul slept well; I, fitfully. We were delayed in the middle of nowhere/the night for nearly two hours.
