A travel blog entry by nat1198 on Feb 11, 2015

... for the day, Danny, who was quite good but unfortunately the others in our group were a lot slower than ourselves. Danny suggested moving us to a more advanced ski group and thought we had been skiing at least 4 or 5 years. He was very surprised to hear it was only our 2nd ski trip. How good are we lol the next day we were with a different group, perhaps a way more advanced group than we were ready for as some of these guys could do back flips while skiing lol anyway ...

He took us for a half an hour walk up the hillside to a lake, through the snow.

... to feed each bear so if anyone's interested, their website is www.vier-pfoten.bg (four paws) Once they had been brought to the sanctuary, they were put into these really large fenced off areas in native forest, designed to replicate their original environment. The bears who were here looked pretty happy, although some of them still had the whole dancing bear routine going along and would shuffle side to side for 5 minutes at a time as we watched. Very sad ...

Back on private transport this morning and we took a 2 hour bus trip to Rila Monastery. Built for Saint John the miracle-working hermit from the 9th Century, it is located in a beautiful spot in the hills, and surrounded by snow capped mountains. It is an incredible place for the monastery, which was rebuilt in the 19th century, so quite modern and has a very distinctive look. We had a quick glance through the church, as, by this stage, we have seen a fair few churches. ...
