... to the border was 25M more. It was only 65k by the first sign but it was often uphill where the bus underperforms. Daniela said tonight is the best hotel of the trip ie a sauna and a pool. Neither touched by this TEAMS member, Roddy. The new 'reason' for the final group dinner tonight was to release people to do things in Sofia: nothing about an early start.

... the hotel around 1 and you know what that means...nana nap time! So after some serious snoozing, we got up around 2 and wandered around the village of Bansko, heading down some lovely little alleyways and spent the rest of the day just chillling out in local bars and cafés, drinking beer and coffee and relaxing and catching up on our photos and blog time.

Once we arrived at the Dancing Bear Sanctuary, we met one of the keepers, Vil. She explained that the bears had all been rescued from various places around the country and there were, supposedly, none left performing in Bulgaria. The original owners would somehow get them as one year olds, put their paws on hot plates and play the violin. Once they stopped the music, they would remove the hot plates. ...

Back on private transport this morning and we took a 2 hour bus trip to Rila Monastery. Built for Saint John the miracle-working hermit from the 9th Century, it is located in a beautiful spot in the hills, and surrounded by snow capped mountains. It is an incredible place for the monastery, which was rebuilt in the 19th century, so quite modern and has a very distinctive look. We had a quick glance through the church, as, by this stage, we have seen a fair few churches. ...
