From Punkaharju we traveled only a short distance to Savonlinna to spend a few hours at the well known fortress of Olavinlinna. It was built in 1475 by the Swedish and is one of the best preserved medieval castles in Scandinavia surrounded by a lake...........Russia gained control in 1743........another history lesson on our guided tour. ... we are off sightseeing around here and as soon as I have a chance later today will post a few photos. Really enjoying this time here by the lake and watching the world go by and wondering what the rest of the world is doing on a day like today? ... mooi onderhouden, dit kun je zelf zien aan de foto's. Toen we de kerk betraden was er een dienst aan de gang. Eventjes wachten en konden we al toerist foto's trekken. De kerk was indrukwekkend knap. Alles van hout, de geur was zalig, het gevoel ook. Een mooi staaltje vakmanschap.
Meer over de kerk kun je hier vinden. Blijkbaar toch niet zo goed onderhouden. :-)
