... next few days would be spent camping on an island in the Linnansaaren National Park. We were very fortunate to enjoy a cruise on a Finnish scouting ship right around sunrise so the views of the sun setting across the lakes and islands were just breath taking! It was a short but rocky walk from the very basic quay to the camp ground but all part of the back to basics natural Finland experience! ...

Savonlinna was my next stop in Finland. It is in the middle of nowhere. It's nearly 5 hours from the capital of FInland. I'm not really sure why I came here. I probably saw it on the map and just thought maybe it would be a good stopping point on the way to Helsinki. It was a good point to stop at, but there wasn't much here. We phoned ahead to book a cabin a bit out of the way and (after a great sight seeing tour) eventually found the very pleasant camp site tucked away in the woods by a lake. We had a cabin close to the sauna ...

... a side road to go to a Salmon farm but found strawberries for sale instead down a side road from a Russian strawberry farmer so forgot about the salmon and feasted on strawberries instead.

We found another great camping ground at Punkaharju Lomakeskus. We have a little log cabin right next to the lake and enjoyed a swim last night plus a sauna and swim to start the day off today. Have decided to book in here for another night.
