      3 Days in Florence

Getting here was easy, fast train, 1st class, and taxi throughout the busy streets. Our B&B is small but quiet and very Tuscan in the middle of a very busy tourist area. The Duomo is one of the biggest we have seen and the actual cupola is so worth the 400 plus steps for the view, as is the tower opposite. To finish off our first day in Florence we trudged up (again) to Piazza Michelangelo to enjoy the sunset with Campari soda and pizza. The next day included the ...

8.30am departure for Italy. 175 tunnels over a 3 hour period. Ventimiglia in Italy at 9.50 am. Limestone Caves in the mountains- can see some stalactites from the freeway. Many green houses used for flower growing for the perfume industry. Tollway spans high over the hills that have houses and greenhouses. River beds are dry. The tollway also skirts high above the coastline. ...

Headed off to Florence first thing. On arrival we had about an hour to shop before meeting up for our walking tour. They then took us into a leather shop for a demonstration, where Troy bought a new wallet and belt. After walking all afternoon we found a nice cafe and had a few drinks on the sidewalk with a few of the people from our group. We then headed back to the hotel for ...

... Michelangelo's famous statue of David. The views from this vantage point are as impressive as those from San Miniato, and it draws large crowds of tourists both day and night.

Shortly after we continued our descent, we stumbled (quite by accident) into the Giardino delle Rose (the city's Rose Garden), a beautifully landscaped area spread over an acre of sloping terraces, with interesting sculptures ...

... have time to map out another one tonight.

      Lizzie here!

After Doug ran 6 miles he came back to the room and showered. I was still fast asleep and it was lovely. I finally got up around 8:15 am and we got ready for a full day in Florence. We were out the door and headed to a café for breakfast. We both got a pastry and headed towards the Duomo Cupola (the main Cathedral’s Dome – you can climb it).

We arrived to find a very, ...
