Historical Traveler Reviews Southernmost Hotel Key West

Gorgeous views, clean updated rooms, close to everything, nice people

    from

We just got back from a trip to Key West where we stayed at the Southernmost Hotel on the Beach. The rooms were extremely clean and newly renovated with great furniture and bathrooms. All of the rooms have a gorgeous view of the ocean, which is on two sides of the small two-story hotel. The hotel is also attached to a nice small beach, which has a bar and restaurant. The beach here is larger than most of the hotels on the island have. It is a close (4 blocks or so) to Duval St. and all that it has to offer. The people there were also very friendly and welcoming. We are planning to head back next December and would HIGHLY recommend this hotel to anyone. The Southernmost Hotel was right across the street and it also looked very nice and newly rennovated.

    Just Right

    from

My husband and I have stayed at the Southernmost several times, and find it very enjoyable. It's a great location - away from the hectic end of Duvall Street, and very close to the Banana Cafe, our very favorite place to eat breakfast, out on the porch. The rooms are quite pleasant and comfortable and suit the bill for a Key West stay. (Who spends much time in their room anyhow?) Near the pool there's the very important tiki bar (where we once huddled with other guests in the pouring rain when the entire island had lost power during a huge storm - the bartender had a flashlight and kept pouring right on through the storm!) The Southernmost no longer accepts bookings by obnoxious spring-breakers, so you will find your stay peaceful, thank heavens.

Try it - you'll like it!

    Great place to stay

    from

My friend and I just returned from a trip to Key Westand stayed at the Southernmost. Would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a great stay in Key West. We found the rooms clean and tidy, maid service daily.

Pools were great and bar on site. Definately stay here again on my return to Key west. Staff were friendly and helpful. Key West is a great place to visit very relaxed and chilled atmopsphere and can't wait to return!

    Excellent Choice - Easy Walking

    from

Stayed 2 nights. Much better than I expected. Clean room, and quiet. Beach across the street had much seaweed when we where there, but the view made up for that. Very easy walking. I'm over 50 with my son 18, walked all the way up to sloppy joes, no problem. We could have walked all the way to the end, not much futher, but had covered that area the day before. Warning - parking is rediculous anywhere near duval st. Hard to find and very expensive - $10 for 2 hrs. Free parking at the hotel and walk. Some very nice places to eat within easy walking or very short drive. Very good choice for the smart vacationer.

Southernmost, the best of Key West

    from

My husband and I have stayed at the Southern most Hotel several times.

The rooms are airconditioned, and have color TV and hairdryers & iron &ironing boards & coffee makers. The rooms are decorated in the island theme, with cane and white "Hemingway" style furniture. The staff is great. It's just a few blocks away from the loud Key West night life; we can party, then go back to a quiet relaxing hotel. All 3 of the pools are wonderful. The oceanview pool has a laundramat six steps away from the pool--I never go home with a bag full of dirty clothes! The Tiki bar always has a fruity drink special, and they offer a wide variety of beers, mixed drinks or soft drinks. Tiki bar serves an economical breakfast: cereal or short order. Concierge service can rent a moped or bicycle to you, and direct you to the best buys in sight seeing and Key West boating/ snorkeling/fishing. At almost half the price of the "brand name" hotels, we know our next vacation will be spent at the Southernmost Hotel, Key West Florida.

    Southernmost Gives The Most

    from

I have returned many times to the Southernmost Hotel and Motel. The wonderful staff and clean, adorable rooms make the visit perfect! They have two beautiful pools and I love the quaint tiki bar that even offers hot dogs :) it is located near the heart of town, but it is on the quieter end where you can enjoy more scenery and less crowds. Best of all, the staff and management treat me with respect and greet me with a big smile. It is so refreshing in my crazy, busy life....to know I can get away to the perfect lil hotel and RELAX.I highly recommend it!

    Don't stay here!

    from

we made reservations 2 months ahead for a third floor room with a balcony - upon check in the rude staff informed us they do not honor reservations for a particular room type. it was 4th of july weekend so we were stuck. they put us in a dark , dirty , smelly room on the ground floor . the balcony consisted of a small patio surrounded by boards to eliminate any view or breeze. i could have overlooked the filthy room or the nasty bathroom but being lied to about my reservation really pissed me off - one week before we had received a call from "judy" asking us to change our room type which we declined to do - when we asked to speak to judy we were told she was not available - i just wanted to know why she had called asking us to change our room type without telling us it would not be available - and by the way "judy" was not available during our entire stay. after talking to other guests we found out the 3rd floor rooms are just as dirty as the 1st floor rooms ! do not stay here - you will regret it.

    Great pools and beach

    from

Everything seemed great at check-in in the lobby and walking through the pool area and tiki bar got me excited until we saw the room. It looked like a true motel only dirtier. But i gave it a shot and the next morning spent the day at the pools and beach (you can use their other property's beach and pool right across the street). It was awesome and when returning to the room, i didnt even care about the dirty floor, the bedding was clean and the room was very tidy. They gave us plenty of towels also. I liked that we could rent mopeds and schedule sailing and snorkeling right out of the hotel. Ask for an upper floor if you go. I am already planning my next trip there and will stay again! Well worth the cheap price.

    What a dump!

    from

The room I stayed in was filthy, the toilet wouldn't stop running, the staff was rude and the bed was uncomfortable. Great location though.

    Unsanitary Pools.

    from

I went for a swim in a pool which felt like a uninviting luke warm bath. The chlorine smelled like yurine and there were bandaids floating in the pool. I do not think they cleaned the pool the entirte time I was there...that was 8 nights!

Cruise Day 4 / Key West

Woke up to a cool and windy day in Key West, Florida.

Justin had improved, but was still very puffy and sore so he kept his sunglasses on. It took 1.5 hours to disembark the boat because we needed to all go through US immigration - it was chaotic because most people on the ship ignored their scheduled 'slot' and rushed through all together. *****.

We got there just after, & it was still full of street performers & stalls. Any way tomorrow's plan is to meander back up the keys to Miami for 1 night for the basketball. . . . . ... I agree with him. Made it down to the Keys. Not really my thing down there, after the 7 mile bridge. Too much tourist trap kinda of stuff down there. If you like the bars, noisy crowds, lots of little stores to look at and people to be around - you will like that area. Just not for me, even with the walking/beach areas down that way. Nick came down to the bar wearing a really scary mask which covered his whole face and was licking the edges of cups as he served the drinks. Everyone was going crazy. Aj and Nick announced that they were probably going to come round to all the rooms tonight to see everyone. So when every they went out of sight everyone wondered where they were.
Eventually though the party died down. Me and Nicky ...
