      ... after a long day.

      Yesterday morning we maxed out on the breakfast offered by our dodgy hotel - cold omelettes on toast with tea. At check out time we gladly moved our backpacks and newly acquired groceries to our new accommodation for the weekend, Fatima's Backpackers. For 800 Meticals (about R270) we pitched our tent on an astro turfed roof top in the city, much happiness!

      ... and I didn’t want to draw a huge amount of attention to myself. Luckily my passport was brought back without incident and I learned to always follow my passport in future even if it makes you look like a control freak.

      Only half an hour in our bus started leaking oil and we were stuck by the road for hours waiting for a replacement. I was surprised we even got that to be honest. Finally on the border I was happy to ...

      ... Ensuite course numéro 2 en route vers la frontière du Mozambique, 400-500 mètres à couvrir sur une route quelconque, ou se promène des tas de gens mêlés à des vendeurs itinérants, à des voitures qui font la file, à des mamans portants leurs enfants vers la frontière et finalement un genre de cabane où on se met en ligne, la mauvaise, car peu d’indication et toutes en Portugais (eh oui, le Mozambique est une ancienne colonie Portugaise)… bienvenu dans la vraie Afrique! ...

      ... of Kenny G and Barry Manilow CDs. Quite strange music taste in Mozambique's capital it seems. Either that, or we look like the kind of people who would enjoy that kind of thing...

      We then started to work on our negotiation skills with the local taxi drivers, bargaining them down from 600 Mets (R200) to 250 Mets (about R80) for a trip to the beach areas. Although we would certainly not recommend actually swimming in the water (bottles and pollution everywhere) ...

      ... breakfast, and salad....! The rest of the day was spent relaxing on the beach and playing in the huge waves, with some wanders along the beach and photoshoots added in for fun! It was absolute paradise, and the company was fantastic - laughs galore! At about midday we saw 20 fishermen struggling to pull in a huuuuuge net, so the lovely people that we are, we decided to help. I think we may have hindered more than helped, but the thought was there! ...
